Hey everyone,
I am new to the forum and I apologize in advance if this post is in the wrong category or something like that. I have done a search for this specific issue with no luck.
First off, first time installing a remote start and my knowledge of circuitry is probably moderate, I would say. Just FYI.
I installed an Avital 4115L remote start in my 2009 Ridgeline RTL a few weekends ago, and the truck was starting correctly, only with no parking light confirmation and some other obvious issues I was able to fix. So, I found that Avital had an issue on their diagram for installing the parking light jumper for this unit and was able to install the jumper on the unit correctly and everything is working well now. Except for one thing.
When I unlock the truck with the Avital remote by hitting the button once while already running, it does unlock fine, and the parking lights flash three times, also fine, but on the "off" cycle of the parking lights while in the flashing sequence, the radio, nav., etc. backlights all flash. And once running from the remote start (not when started with the key), the radio backlights are very slightly lit. This shouldn't be so as the backlights for dash (minus gauge cluster) should only be lit once the headlight switch has been turned on to "parking lights" or "headlights".
Any ideas? When I checked the parking light output wire from the vehicle with the multi-meter during the install, I was getting 12V+ with the black lead on ground with the switch turned on. So I believe that means that the wire I tapped is the pos. trigger for the parking lights. Should I tap the neg. wire and remove the jumper?

I am using the PKT2 bypass module for transponder override, and the HODL4 unit for alarm interface, by the way.

You're simulating the parking lights being switched on, so it's working as it should.

The thing is though that when the parking lights are between flashes, the interior dash lights are flashing which shouldn't happen, you know? So when the parking lights actually flash, the dash backlight goes dark, and when the parking lights go dark, the backlight flashes bright. It seems to me that only the parking lights should actually be flashing, not everything else in the vehicle. And not on the opposite cycle while the unlock confirm sequence is active. Seems very strange to me.

I definitely see what you mean and could see the interior lights flashing with the parking lights, but why opposite to the parking lights?

If you turn your key to the accessory position so that your radio comes on, look at the brightness of the display. Now turn on your parking lights and you should see it dim.
That way, when you drive at night, the display won't be too bright.

When I turn the key to accessory, there is no backlight, and when I turn the parking lights on, the backlight comes on. This way the buttons can be seen at night. There is a wheel for controlling the brightness. That is separate though.
So, I see how the parking light wire would make the backlights light because of being on the same circuit. But, when the vehicle is locked and unlocked, the parking lights flash without flashing the backlights like I am describing. Anyone know how I could emulate that function for unlock while the truck is running from a remote start?

When I say locked and unlocked, I am referring to being locked and unlocked with the factory Honda remote.

You could use a relay to interrupt a wire behind the radio during remote start. If you interrupt the switched wire the radio will stay off. If you interrupt the illumination wire, the backlighting will stay off.

Hmm. That’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to keep that in mind. Thanks for the suggestion. My other thought is why can the stock remote unlock the vehicle without the dash backlight flashing with the parking lights? Different circuit? Because that makes me think I should find the trigger wire for that circuit and tap that instead. Or am I thinking about that incorrectly?

Here's a site that Ween posted a while back. I suggest every one bookmarks it. You can look up diagrams for most makes and models:
