Hi there

With older cars, thieves will almost always look for a hidden switch under the dashboard.

Here's my solution for an extra layer of security: two toggle switches under either side of the underneath of the dash. When either is activated, the car's horn and hazards are activated. The horn and hazards can't be switched off using the same toggle switch but only by activating the other toggle switch.

Here's the closest solution I can find - https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram63.html - but it's still a way off.

How might I achieve this?

Thanks very much.

Jim

I'm not sure I understand the purpose since thieves probably don't care about the horn or hazard lights.

Either way, if those relays remain latched, it'll drain your battery.

While also not exactly what you're looking for, this is a passive starter kill that uses the horn to deactivate (horn and starter):

Thanks for the suggestion.

The car is usually parked outside my house so I need something to alert me.

While I installed in Louisville, I had a client who refused to have a CD player installed until he had an alarm system installed. So installed the alarm, then a few weeks later, installed the CD player. Couple weeks go by, and client returns to purchase new equipment. Someone broke in, triggering the alarm, thief then removed the alarm, as well as the CD player. Wasn't a hack job either. Person knew exactly what to do.

Since that time, my idea of an alarm involves piezo sirens under the dash, to make the thief uncomfortable while they remove the equipment.

I always thought the MagnaVolt anti/theft system from RoboCop 2 seemed like it would be very effective. 😂
