2001 chevy tahoe 5706 viper Db3 bypass module shop took over installation since I didnt get any feedback on my original thread regarding the wiring schematic I had laid out hoping to get sum feed back after this pic of what the shop did to my tahoe and get to fix it. Quick run down they eliminated the Db3 added 3 relays use tape and butchered my wiring after I had solder, shrink wrapped, and tesa tape my harness.

I believe that this write up by kreg357 is the only thing close to my tahoe viper and module except that I run negative MH 5 connection. 2002 Silverado with Viper 5806 and DB-ALL2 flashed with 4.02 GM5 Ver 3.12.106a firmware.

Assumptions : Gasoline engine, factory door locks, going with D2D between Viper & DB-ALL2.
There is no need for the 451M door lock module, the DB-ALL2 will handle the locks and alarm via it's connection to the J1850

OMG. It's work like that that gives the 12 Volt industry a bad reputation.

First question. Does it work?
( the pre-question is why did you bring it to someone? I'm sorry you didn't get a reply from you original post.
I don't use Directed products and after their recent purge, don't answer too many questions due to lack of
current knowledge of their products. )

Even if your Tahoe has a Factory Alarm system, you really don't need a full featured bypass module like the
DB-ALLx series. Sure, they make things easier but a simple Passlock2 bypass module is all you need. And that
appears to be what the install shop did. They used the old school "Relay and Resistor" method to bypass the
Passlock2 during R/S. The other two relays are used convert the Vipers (-) Door Lock outputs to a (+) signal
that the Tahoe needs, one for Lock and the other for Unlock.

Don't know what to tell you. I would be very hesitant to bring it back to that shop. If it didn't work
properly, I would ask for a refund. If it works properly, I'd be tempted to clean up the install, getting
rid of the crimp connectors, soldering and heat shrinking everything, etc, making it neat and call it a day.
Remember that the removed curved metal plate has some unfinished edges on it, so make sure the harnesses are
well protected in that area.

I already had wired up using solder, heat shrink, and Tesa tape all that needed was the programming according to the flashes from the module it wasnt communicating and after reading that this modules dont take on the first try I assumed it needed to be reflashed with the proper software called around only shop that would reprogram it for me.
It locks and unlocks but it doesn't start the tahoe, cranks but doesnt engage. Relays have no resistors from what I see and no they was not payed since they decided to do that work without contacting me and advance they butchered wires that were solder and they left wires without no protection (bare wires).

Check the instrument cluster to see if the "Security" light is on during R/S cranking.
That would indicate that the Passlock2 is not being bypassed and preventing fuel from
getting to the engine.

Can't see the wires all that well, but it looks like the Yellow Passlock2 wire has something
connected to it. Guess that the 3rd relay was for the Brown ACC2 wire. If that's the case,
you will need a bypass module for the Passlock2 being as the DB-ALL3 is removed. If you
trust the Viper alarm system to protect the Tahoe, you could do a permanent bypass on the
Passlock2 or get a Fortin Passlock SL2 or a Directed 556 LW bypass module.

Does your Tahoe have the Factory Alarm?
What exact Viper model are you using?
Anything connected to the Tahoe's Yellow Passlock2 wire?

It might help if you listed all the actual connections.

Yes factory alarm
Viper 5706v
Passlock to db3 rap off output
I can try to look for all the connections but might take me a while since I have to go through the diagrams and harness to make sure since they extended wires using pieces and also clipped wires I had already ran

The module was removed but they left all the harness attach including the one to the brake and obd 2. I think at this point I'm better off removing everything and starting all over again.

If you do that, you should plan now on what type of Passlock2 bypass module to use.
As you already found out, going with any type of module that requires a special firmware
flash prior to use is a bad choice for DIY'ers. Too many hurdles to jump and issues to
get around. There are a few "full featured" modules available that are ready to go
right out of the box.   Of course these modules probably won't be able to handle the DBI
D2D comm so they would be hardwired between the Viper and the bypass module. If
you want to hardwire the door locks, etc, you could go with a basic Passlock2 module
as mentioned above.   It would appear that is what you currently have from the local
12 Volt installer. Anyway, let me know what bypass module you plan to go with and I
will either supply you with a wire chart or review the one you propose. (I did not find the
earlier post you mentioned with that info that no one responded to.)

When I start it with the key then use the rs the motor turns as if it was starting but also the starter keeps cranking as if it hasn't started.

Please verify which color wire in the vehicle is connected to the Solid Pink Ignition 1 input/output wire from the Viper. I can not tell from the photo if it is connected to the vehicle Pink or White.

Are you using tach or virtual? Has that been set properly in Menu 3?

Is this an automatic transmission? I see a labeled wire for e-brake and I’m wondering what it is for? If automatic was this properly changed from default manual to automatic in Menu 3?

Is there any specific bypass modules you recommend besides the db3 from what I'm gathering calling this shops today that's what they are selling for the viper alarm. I will continue to call see if I can find another option.

As off right now I will run the viper as alarm and the db3 as the bypass module hopefully this reflash I got done works and it all goes well apparently my local shops dont carry any other bypass or they just really wanna push the db3 out. So with no luck for other options I must proceed to get my vechile up and running this is how I presume the wiring should go.

As far as bypass modules go, the DB series is the designed to go with the Viper.
That being said, there are other options out there.

First a few questions need to be answered.

Do you want a full featured bypass module like the DB3 that does more than the Passklock2 bypass function?

Do you want the bypass module to be capable of D2D communications with the Viper?

Kreg357 in honesty I have no idea what the bypasses are capable of doing. My idea was to get a alarm that would be able to unlock, lock and start my truck for those cold early mornings maybe later on have window roll down and up option. Since my factory alarm controls broke and I assume it would be better to upgrade the factory the alarm.

Knowing everything possible for your project is very important. There are no plug-n-play
options for your Tahoe out there. Knowledge is power. And as you found out, good and
knowledgeable installers are worth their weight in gold.

For your truck there are two types of bypass modules. The basic bypass module will only handle
the Passlock2 engine immobilizer system. The second class of bypass modules ( full featured ), will
handle the Passlock2 plus perform other functions like handle the trucks door locks, alarm system,
provide a Tach signal and the front doors status signal. According to the DB3 install guide, it can
perform all those extra functions. Directed is the only company with a full featured bypass module
for that year Tahoe. All other manufacturers produce basic Passlock2 bypass modules for that year.
Some of these can also provide a Tach signal. What this means is that with a Passlock2 only bypass
module, the Viper will have to directly interface the Tahoe to perform certain functions ( locks and alarms )
and obtain various necessary signals ( Brake, Door Status, etc ).    Making all the vehicle connections
isn't too bad. Here is a link to a Pictorial to your class vehicle with most of the necessary wires
shown :       https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=135786        The only wires
missing are the door pin status wires for the Vipers alarm system.

You have the ability to solder and make good wire connections. You will also need a Digital Multi
Meter and the ability to use it. A bad connection can kill the BCM, ECM, door lock switches, etc.
The Pictorial provides an example of the R/S, relays, bypass module inter-connections. While you are
using a different R/S system, you can apply that info to your chosen system.

Personally, for your Tahoe, I would use a Directed 451M door lock module and a Fortin INT-SL+
for the Passlock2 bypass module. You would have to hardwire the INT-SL+ to the Viper, but that
is only 4 wire connections.

After the cleaning of the harness I have figure out that the reason they didnt use the db3 was that they yanked on the harness so bad that the main obd wire pin was pulled out of it. I dont mind taking my time soldering and testing but after reading on the db3 and what I went through I will look into the components you have suggested and avoid any other problems.

The Fortin PASSLOCK-SL2. v.2 is slightly different in the way it handles the Tahoes
Passlock2 system from the INT-SL+ but less expensive. A couple more wires to connect
but it should work well. The PASSLOCK-SL2. v.2 does its' job directly on the Passlock2
wires via resistance while the INT-SL+ does it through Data at the J1850 wire.

Looks much better!

I believe the two relays are for the (-) to (+) conversion on the lock wires.
The other relay might have been for the Brown ACC2 wire. I'm pretty sure that
the Viper has an internal relay for Starter Kill and Anti-Grind. It uses the
thick Green and Violet wires to accomplish this and a cut on the trucks Yellow
Starter wire.

If your lock and unlock work OK from the Viper, you don't really need the
Directed 451M module.

Not sure if a Fortin INT-SL-PL is the same as the Fortin INT-SL+ bypass module.

Please remember that that Pictorial and write-up was specific to a R/S system and the
bypass module used. While there are many similarities, there are significant differences.
4806 with DB2 vs 5706 with Fortin INT-SL+

Correct me if I'm wrong but beside using a Viper 5706 instead of a Viper 4806, you are
going to use a basic Passlock2 only bypass module instead of a full featured bypass
module.

The 5706 is an alarm system and will need to monitor the trucks doors and hood to
provide the alarm functions. The DB2 was capable of handling the trucks factory
alarm system. For your install you will have to hardwire the Viper Door Trigger
inputs directly to the trucks door pins.

If your truck has a factory alarm system additional wires must be run to control
the factory alarm.

Lastly, the DB2 was directly handling the door locks while your install will use
relays and direct connections to the (+) lock / unlock wires. I believe you have
that aspect covered but I'm not positive.

I really don't have a good grasp on where you are at right now to be sure how to
advise you. My first thought would be for you to provide the actual wire connections
made using the real Viper 5706 plugs and wire colors.

First, AST 13 goes to Chassis Ground for an Auto Trans vehicle that passes the NSS safety tests.
I would also hardwire AST 12 to the DB3's Tach Output as shown in their diagram.

Second, the DB3 should be flashed with the 403.GM5 Ver 4.10 firmware.

Make sure that the DB3 vehicle programming procedure completes successfully and follows the guide exactly.

Set the Viper to Auto Trans and Tach Mode. Perform a Tach Learn. Verify that the jumper
fuse is set to (+) Parking Light Output.

While I believe that the ACC2 Brown wire is not mandatory for your vehicle, I always add that
relay and power all the ignition wires just like a normal key startup would.

Again, I've never used a DB3. The modules I use for that vehicle only do the
Passlock2 bypass function. There is a list of the functions supported by the DB3 om
Page 4 of the install guide. I would definitely check out everything after the
install, especially the rear door triggers for the 5706 alarm system.
