I am installing a Viper 4706V into my 2005 BMW X3 (USA). Additionally, I will be installing a 556UW as a bypass module for the remote start to work properly. I will be installing the grey valet key into the module and installing the key ring the euro way by cutting into the vehicles key ring.

I was wondering with the bypass module installed will I still need a programmed (chipped) BMW key to start the vehicle? I am specifically referencing if I were to try to start the vehicle with the key and not the remote start. If I don't need a programmed (chipped) key after the bypass module is installed then I can go to my local hardware store or locksmith and have a key cut and avoid the costly dealer for a new spare key.

I appreciate any input and hope this might help others too.

According to Directechs that vehicle does not require a bypass.
