Subject: No Reservation Mode After Remote Start Only

I can enter reservation mode without any issue after I start the car manually with a key, but after remote starting the vehicle (with a compustar cm6200) for some reason the car will not enter Res mode (ie, if I remote start thereafter when I take the key out of the ignition the engine shuts down immediately; if it had been previously started with the key it stays running until I close the door).

I’m stumped ... any ideas?

Are you sure your door wire is connected using the correct polarity? Is this a new install or a new problem with an old install?

It’s a new install.

I tested all signals. I’m pretty sure door polarity is correct.

Based on the fact that reservation mode works FINE after starting with the key (meaning the “open door / close door” sequence is subsequently recognized and then the car shuts down properly) I would also assume the polarity is correct. Indeed I had a bad connection with my door trigger wire and was previously getting a 3:3 flashing light error showing the door was open. When I fixed the bad connect the 3:3 flash error went away ... meaning the “door closed” was now recognized. So again, I’m thinking more evidence the door polarity is correct.

You haven’t said what kind of car this is. I’m confused as to what it’s not doing. You set reservation. You later remote start and it works. Then you get in turn the key on and drive away. Then you’re in the car and get where you are going and remote start for reservation mode setup but the engine turns off and won’t enter reservation mode?

Is there a dome light supervision feature that is confusing the door trigger input?

I do not “remote start for reservation mode.

1. I remote start, get in car and drive off, at end of trip set parking brake, take foot off brake, take out key of car and ... car immediately stops.

2. I open the drivers side door and start the car with my key (and NOT by remote start), I drive off, at end of trip set parking brake, take foot off brake, take out key and the car stays running until I open and then subsequently close the door, after which time the car shuts itself down and I am in reservation mode.

No dome light installed.

Not sure if it is causing an issue or not but you should be releasing pedal brake first and then setting hand brake.

The door is closed while trying to get into reservation mode and not open correct?

Yes. Door is closed. Foot off brake before setting parking brake. No difference. Indeed, looking for clues I have tried every imaginable variation of doors open, doors closed, off brake after parking brake, release foot brake before parking, etc.

When the car DOES enter res mode after manual start it only shuts down when the door closes: polarity seems to be correct.

Put simply, in all proper variations:

The car goes into reservation mode after I manually start it.

The car does NOT go into reservation mode following a successful remote start.

I am completely stumped.

it's not seeing the e-brake / or your might have a bad module. When you set reservation mode (assuming you didn't change any of the default settings), you should hear a relay click. (this keeps the igntion on).

Also you never said what kind of car this is.. Did you hard wire the e-brake? or are you using a data module? Data E-brake is hit or miss, mostly miss.

It is a hard wired ebrake and this appears to be working fine as I have retested the voltages with a DMm yesterday. Also, reservation mode sets itself CORRECTLY after a key start, but only if the ebrake has been set.

I’m not sure what you mean by “when you set reservation mode.”   I don’t set reservation mode. I take my foot off the brake, set ebrake, and then take the key out. Reservation mode occurs automatically (the car keeps running). This works fine after a key start.
