I had a shop install a viper 4105 remote start in my car.   98 Nissan Maxima. They didn’t hook up a relay for my trunk popper so I got a relay and wires it up and it worked once. I brought the relay and harness inside to soldier what I could and wired it back up to the car and nothing. Checked the output wire and no signal was coming from it. What would cause that?

What wire are you wiring to? There are 2 purple/yellow wires in the driver's kick. Did you test the wire before hooking up to it?

Trunk Release     Purple/Yellow (-)      Driver's Kick Panel
Trunk Pin     Purple/Yellow (-)      Driver's Kick or BCM below Radio

I assume this is a heavy gauge wire and it requires a relay, how did you hook the relay up?

Should be:

Pin 86 to 12V constant
Pin 85 to Red/White of the 4105
Pin 30 to Gnd
Pin 87 to Purple/yellow trunk release

If it worked once, are the connections good (soldered, no taps) and does the output of the 4105 still work?
To test the 4105 trunk release, put 1 voltmeter lead on 12V constant, the other on the red/white trunk release lead. Press the 4105 fob trunk release and you should see 12V on the meter when the trunk release negative output is active (for 1 second).

Cheers

I wired it exactly as you said. And I went to the purple/yellow at the switch which I assume it the same as the trunk release in the drivers kick. Was told the other one at the bcm wouldn’t pop if the car was started remotely. I will test with a volt meter when I buy one.

I didn’t run the wires final yet but I know the relay works. I also know the relay pops the trunk because I wired pin 87 to the defroster circuit to test and it worked when remote started.

My voltmeter is showing 12 volts.

that year maxima needs a high current ground. if the trunk output no longer works on the 4105, you most likely blew it.

What I don’t understand is if it reads on my multimeter that’s it has a signal how would it be blown?

I read a ton of issues with the trunk release negative output on this site it’s insane.
