Hello

I am installing an Avital 4105 and 791 bypass in a 1999 Chevy Malibu. I tested all wires, hooked it up, programmed the bypass and the tach but it will not stay running. It barely fires up and then dies with the Theft light flashing. I am able to start it with the key and then do remote takeover(I can hear the avital click when doing this), remove the key and it stays running(side note: before installing any of this I was able to start it with the key and then slide the key out of the cylinder and it would stay running) Is the bypass junk?? If I run shutdown diagnostics it flashes 3 times - Low or no RPM, low battery (voltage and virtual tach modes). I have a tach wire ran and programmed. Any help is appreciated

Thank you

Sounds like the bypass module is not working properly.

Your Malibu has a Passlock2 system. The Passlock2 system cuts off fuel to the engine if not bypassed. The engine will crank and stumble when the fuel in the rails is gone. The Security light in the instrument cluster will be on.

Did you follow the 791 Install guide for the Passlock2 system?

The 4105 Dark Blue (-) Status Output wire is the one that connects to the 791's Blue (-) Ignition wire.

The bypass is wired for Passlock2. Per the install guide I programmed it first before connecting it to the remote start. Then connected it to pin 4 white/blue (-) Activation input on the 9-pin primary harness. Was I supposed to connect it to pin 5 blue/white (-) 200mA 2nd status on the 5-pin remote start harness instead?

You don't want the (-) Activation Input. You want the (-) Status or you could use (-) 2nd Status if you aren't using it for Defrost.

After looking back over the guide for the 4105 I see the blue (-) Status output. It's on the satelite harness I didn't think I needed anything on there  thank you I will give it a try.
