Subject: Door Unlock Problem, 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Okay vehicle is a 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup and I have an autostart as1775 installed for remote start and keyless entry.

So the other day I tried to unlock the doors and it wouldn't work.
Key fob will remote start, unlock and end start like they should.
The door locks are working perfectly with the switches in the truck and when I hit the unlock on the remote the lights flash and you can hear the autostart unit click but it wont trigger the unlock.

I had a look at it and all the wire seemed connected still.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

How is the connection made? What wire of the truck do you have for unlock?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking.
It looks like the green wire(unlock) is connected to a wire that I cant tell the color because it had tape wrapped around it and it's nearly unrecognizable due to tape residue.
Mind you this unit has been installed in this truck for better than 8 years with no problems.

Is the wire of the alarm soldered to the wire? Or was it just wrapped around and covered with tape?

Crimped with butt connector.

If you unplug harness from alarm and ground that wire, does that unlock the doors?

How would I go about doing that?

Follow the green wire back to the Autostart and unplug that harness. Use a piece of wire to touch that green wire to a known good ground (the outside of the cigarette lighter outlet will work).

I'll do this later.
When I ground it, should it unlock?

I grounded the green wire and pressed the unlock button on my remote with no change.

Brain still clicked but no unlock.

Chances are the connection where that green wire connects to the vehicle is faulty. That means you need to cut that butt connector out of the vehicle wire, clean all of the electrical tape Gook off of it, extend it if neccessary, reconnect the green wire to that wire. When you grounded that wire earlier it should have unlocked the doors.

I traced the wire to check it and replaced it with a new one but no change.
I found that it led to a set.of relays so I switched the 2 relays and now the remote will unlock but not lock it.

So its pretty safe to assume that the relay is faulty, so I'm going to buy 2 new ones tomorrow and replace them.

Relays are siemens vf4-45f11 SPDT 30/40a 5 contact.

Replaced the relay and everything is back to normal.
