I'm wanting to install a remote start and alarm system into a 70s vintage car. I'm wanting to be able to use a phone blue tooth app to operate it. Also really only want to use the "pit stop" feature of the remote start since the car is not fuel injected. I am looking at the Viper DS4+ since it looks like it has what I want. Are there any other systems to look at that are start/alarm with bluetooth to phone and not have to pay for a service plan? Also can the DS4 be installed without a dealer having to program it? I've installed several DIY systems but just want to make sure the dealer does not have to activate it. Thanks

All Viper products should come from a dealer but the DS4+ comes stock with analog firmware loaded and should work fine for your application. Not sure of any other manufactures making an all in one Remote Start with bluetooth.

After looking at it a little more it looks like you have to have the directlink app installed on your phone to set it up. And you have to be a dealer to be able to use that app so doesn't look like I can go that route:V:

bluetooth can also be flakey.. I would suggest getting an RF kit as well.

I've tried the DEI bluetooth modules, and they work about half the time I think mostly due to connectivity issues. They work well when they want to, but I wouldn't depend on them.

I did find a product called Mobokey (shipping is slow since they're made in Pakistan), which will do lock, unlock, trunk release, start and much more (I'm not using many features as I already have an alarm). Connectivity is much better than DEI, maybe due to the external antenna that can be mounted to your glass (mine's just tucked away out of sight). I wouldn't use it as a standalone remote start as there's no tach wire. It simply cranks for a preset amount of time (default is .7 seconds). I used the starter output to trigger a relay and pulse the activation wire on my Viper. It works, but you need to remember to hit stop afterwards. Otherwise, when you kill the engine, the module will slowly drain the battery because it still thinks it's powering the ignition. I like the ability to give someone "digital access" which will expire later. They also have to have the app and create a login.
