Viper 5806V Alarm/Remote Start

Hi Have a Viper 5806v and it is its first power up. I have power to the unit (6pin 12VDC+), ground continuity confirmed, fuse is good.
I was attempting to pair the remote for the first time, however following the guide I get zero from th control centres- literally no lights/ nadda nothing at all - what can I check methodology. when the system is powered for the firs time i should be getting something?

All remotes shipped with the unit are already programmed to it. Only non supplied (add on) remotes need to be paired with the 5806v.

understand - but when i power the 5806V on i should get something right? (led beep, something?)

This may sound lame- but what am I looking for?

Lock or unlock output and/or parking light output.

Also, if the 5806 is a two-way unit, you should get confirmation on your remote.

ill give this a try tomorrow an see what happens

on pressing arm (lock icon) it takes about 3-4 seconds then the orange led flashes 5 times and a tone - not a beep

That's an error tone. The system is not communicating with the remote.

UPDATE: 5806v is on the bench, not sure if a need a new one (hardware failure) investing into another one or new installation which hellishly expensive as this unit is pretty much unused. However if a new unit is needed then I want to make sure I have made the decision based upon a solid test method.

Just need to understand if I my method for checking if this is working (at any level) is solid. so then i can make an informed judgement call.

Test environment: (tested continuity for the connected = all good)
5806v - 6 pin harness connected to ground and power (12VDC)
Control console connected
Remote new batteries (2x 2016) - leds working

1. connect power ground (nothing noticeable) - press lock on remote: get 5 orange flashes and a tone (error - not connecting)
2. control centre - no cigar either (no led activity)

Do I need to connect anything else jus to test the unit ? should i connect the siren and LED as the parkers (or is this effort not going to provide additional insight)

is there something I should be checking at the board level, resetting or is the above indicative of an issue worthy of replacement?

Do you have the ignition wire connected? What about a door trigger? These are both required to program remotes.

Have you tried both remotes? Verify the FCC ID numbers match on the back of the remotes as well as the antenna.
To test the parking light output, I've used a simple test light before. If you get no response from either remote, check continuity through the antenna lead as these wires are tiny (maybe 24 gauge) and break easily.

You can also buy a cheap RF tester to make sure the remotes have output.

This issue as i see it is there is zero feedback from the unit at all - so the next step of pairing maybe fruitless

no ignition wire (or simulation) on the test bench

Door trigger is to ground - when open ( so i can set this up)
check continuity through the antenna lead (all ok - my first step)

To simulate ignition, connect 12 volts to the ignition wire. If you still can't get the remotes to program, it's more likely the antenna than both remotes. You can look online for a replacement, otherwise, maybe the main unit is faulty.

working my way along the viper journey - not I have it responding moving to the next items, to this end its the started kill for the 5806V unit which has me lost....

So far I have wired the green (from crank IGN switch output) to the Pin 6 of the Remote Start, White 10-pin heavy gauge connector (no other connection) and pin 7 Violet of the Remote Start, White 10-pin heavy gauge connector to the starter relay.

Starter relay is a 4 pin with const earth - power etc....

When disarmed- - cranks and starts, and the same for Armed - My understanding is the on-board relay should isolate when armed - what am i doing wrong here?

Equally - to setup the anti grind feature - I need a 5 pin relay - how is the wiring for this differ?

The starter kill relay is built into the unit- no need for an external relay.

If you cut your vehicle's factory starter wire at the ignition harness, the green wire will connect to the side that comes from the ignition switch. The purple wire will connect to the side that goes to the starter.

If I remember correctly, the anti-grind feature is also built in, so you should not have to do anything extra.

SOLVED - its because I didn't have the any other wires connected - in particular the pink IGN in/out wire which appears to energise on-board relays which would make sense.

Hi Forum,

Working my through my viper install. On to remote start which is currently showing an error. I am looking to eliminate what this could be - for manual trans what is the min i need connected (PS doors, bonnet and trunk are NO to ground when closed) - so I assume this can be simply left disconnected to simulate everything closed. I monitor the D2D logger and i get a lot of commands (some with unknown errors) on arm and disarm but very few for remote start- normal? (also new batteries and fully charged remotes)

Do you have the Viper connected to a car? What Brand / Make / Model / Year vehicle.

An install on a Manual Transmission vehicle is more involved. There are several things that must be done.

!. You must run the Viper with Engine Checking = Tach and do a successful Tach Learn.
2. You must connect the Door, Hood and Trunk trigger wires.
3. You must bypass the clutch interlock circuit.
4. You must successfully enter Reservation Mode.

It is not safe to run the Viper R/S in Auto Trans Mode. If the vehicle is left in gear and remote started it will start moving... Reservation Mode prevents this but requires Door Pin connections to work.

If your vehicle has door pins that show Chassis Ground when closed and open when the door is open you have NC door triggers. The easy way to handle this is via an Omega AU-NCT module. Just to clarify

Yes, Normally Open. This type will show a chassis ground when the door is open. You can use all four door trigger wires with 1N4001 diode isolation as the Viper (-) Door Trigger Input. No need for the AU-NCT module.

Ok the clutch bypass seems straight forward - what I don't understand is its purpose, what is the need to send a (-). Is this similar to the brake cut off in some way?

the (-) connects to what on the 5806v exactly - I don't see reference to clutch (-) input?

NOTE: My vehicle has not switch or connection to the clutch (only the brake) its hardly drive by wire vehicle for sure

The purpose is to be able to simulate a press of the clutch so you can remote start.

If you are not using the negative starter output, you can use it.

OK things are moving along - removed all my connections and double checked - found issue with WTS (diesel) and foot brake (+), for the short term i have put wait to start as timed and set to 3 seconds (90-110F average temp here and starts fine without so all ok) the foot brake was not sending (+) so fixed this issue.....
completed Techo learning procedure (key start within 5 seconds press RF control - solid LED indicator, shutdown car...)

Completed MTS procedure ...... all worked as expected.....MAGIC!

Armed car ----- Engine shutdown as expected...... a little more magic

remote start from fob -- starts then shuts down....Viper RS tries a few times same result, then an error is sent back to FOB

I have been trying to use the Directechs XK3 PRG-100 function but I get lots of communication errors - I assume this is due to not having a direct tech account (et. limitation)?

My assumption is there is an issue with Tachometer learning? - but I unsure of how to approach - set to virtual tach?, relearn and if so how do i determine if ist different?

I Run a Dakota Digital DSL1E which reads RPM ('W' wire) from the alternator and outputs (standard tach output = tachometer signal to drive a standard ignition system tachometer)

My understanding with DEI R/S units, is that in Manual Transmission Mode they must run in Tach Mode. The Vipers Tach Input wire must be connected to an acceptable Tach signal source and successful Tach Learn must be completed. Finding a Tach source on a Diesel can be a challenge.

Two things to try.
1. The Viper has something called Shutdown Diagnostics. It will tell you the reason for the 3 R/S attempts and why it gave up.
2. Directed makes a module called a Tach Generator. It's a 454T. You can use that module to supply the Vipers needed Tach Input signal.

Did a diagnostic - an yes it indicates low or no RPM - suspected as such

more investigation needed

Few things based on investigation thus far... I am getting 3 led flashes from control = No or Low RPM, I can confirm the instrument panel is showing RPM correctly.

So may take there are a few things which are worthy of a deeper dive:

1. Learning routine - VIPER: If this is not working or not detecting then this would result similar issues- whilst I have run the process and al seems ok - is there a way of confirming this ti be the case - either by Bitwriter, RF control or XKloader?
2. Cranking delay - DSL1E tacho electronics: on cranking the instrument panel divert power for crank - I am wondering if this delay (pause) in reporting RPM is potentially the source of the issue and if so can i program a delay into Viper to compensate?

Setting the Viper to a 15 second delay ( Menu 3, Item 9 to Option 2 ) won't hurt the vehicle. That will eliminate that possible issue.

In Tach Mode the Viper will output a (+)Starter signal until the engine RPM's reach a certain level based on the Tach Learn and then turn off the Starter output. After a bit the Viper will check the Tach signal to see if it is OK. If too low it will shutdown everything, wait a second or so and try again with added time to the Starter output. After three unsuccessful attempts, it gives up.

You can try doing the Tach Learn Process with the engine under load ( slowest possible RPM ) and see if that helps. You could go the other way and add RPM's via the accelerator pedal and get a Tach Learn at a higher RPM and see if that helps. Last resort, find another Tach source that is better or use the Directed 454T module. Diesels are tough without Spark plugs or electric F.I.'s. Cam Timing sensors can be used if available.

Try a different output on the Dakota DSL-1 for the viper pur/wht tach wire. Don't piggy-back onto the same output you are using for the dashboard tach. The Viper should be able to learn any of the DSL-1 outputs. I'd try the OUT 3 "half speed" output.

If the Viper pur/wht is connected to the "W" terminal on the alternator, this will not work. The Viper can not recognize a sine-wave signal, which is what the W output is. Use one of the outputs on the DSL-1.

RESOLVED I changed the power from accessory 12VDC (+) to IGN 12VDC (+) to the Dakota Digital DSL1E. Now RS it works just fine. It was the automated power down from the DSL1E for cranking which created the no-low RPM error.
