I have a 2005 Nissan Altima with a 3.5 v6 and a manual transmission. I had my RS installed because I heard it is very difficult to do with a stick. So far everything is working fine but my rear window defroster isn't coming on when I RS my car. I called the shop that installed it and they want over $100 to enable it. Is that a fair price? I'm pretty good at doing stereo installs and I'm a fairly decent DIYer. How difficult would this be to do it myself?

Which Compustar controller do you have? The RF-1WG15-FM is just the Remote/Antenna Kit number and can be used on many controllers. The $100 price isn't that bad and somewhat typical when done after the install was completed. It might have been less if asked for during the install. For you as a DIYer the actual wiring is very simple. It's adding just one wire from the controller to the vehicle. However... Most installers will re-assign an unused POC output to Defrost. This will automatically turn on the Defrost a few seconds after the vehicle is remote started. Some will add a Temp Sensor and set the Defrost output to come on only if the temperature is below a pre-set temperature. Either way, depending on the Compustar controller, a special system programming device called an OP-500 is required to make the POC change. The OP-500 goes for around $70. If your system supports AUX1 and AUX2 outputs and they are not in use, you could use an AUX output and manually turn on the Defrost using a remote after the car was remote started. This would require a Programming Option change that can be done using the P1WG15 remote.

Here is the Altima Defrost wire info :

You can find the Compustar controller install guides in the Downloads Section for more info. There is a learning curve here which helps to support the $100 fee you were quoted.
