I have an 2005 Chevy classic. I have an regular key. I'm trying to install an avital 3100l alarm. I grounded the alarm system using the black wire from the main harness. According to the tech sheet, my 12 volt constant is an red(+) located in the ignition harness. I confirmed with an multimeter. The issue is is that when I connect the red alarm wire to my ignition wire (red(+) as well), the system does not turn on, nor do the led flash. Alsothere is an red/black wire on the opposite side of the main harness, near the shock sensor adjuster, which the installation instructions makes no mention of. Where would that wire connect to?

That particular alarm is a base model unit, it turns on immediately when constant and ground wires are connected. If you've verified constant via your multimeter, then place the ground on a factory bolt and see if that helps. Also the red/black wire near the shock sensor dial is the built in antenna, this wire is not to be connected anywhere, after you've completed the install you can wrap this wire up with rest of the harness.

Yes, I found out I had to connect the ground wire first. I'm having trouble finding the horn wire black (-) wire located in the steering column. I disassembled the cover from the column and looked under the dash but can't find the location of my horn wire. The parking lights wire is said to be a brown(+) located in the passenger kick panel, but there are 6 brown wires there.

Noticed which side of the world I'm from? Not familiar with the vehicle in question, maybe someone from your neck of the woods can chime in. Generally though, the horn wire will be found at the steering column, if there are multiple plugs at the steering column, to narrow it down, unplug the plugs one by one, and then press the horn, if it sounds plug it back in and remove another and repeat, once it doesn't sound you know which plug you are working with. Set your meter to dc slip the red lead onto a constant wire and probe with the black lead, when you press the horn, the wire in question should read 12volts or thereabout, that will be your wire. The parking light circuit just test, you will be fine.
