I hope this is the right forum, please feel free to move or bounce me if necessary.

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer that used to have an avital remote start system, fairly simple to get the power locks working with that one but she is gone now. I picked up a le super cheap remote start and alarm system from a store nearby, I believe it is an EZ-Starter EZ75 model. It appears I will need to set up relays to operate the power locks. I think I need to use the
Door Locks - 3 Wire Negative (Type B) Relay Wiring Diagram this website has but I'm not positive, can someone help me out with some relay wiring information for the locks on this vehicle?

should be just a negative lock/unlock. may have to do a gem wake up once the car sets for a while by either activating the ignition for a brief seconds or

I don't think this remote starter has the capability to do a negative lock/unlock. fwiw on the avital had installed previously it would unlock and lock the doors without messing with the gem.

only manual I could find online is for the 45. should have negative lock output or could just use the factory arm/disarm.

thanks for the reply, I'll look through the manual again but I didn't see a negative lock output, I didn't think about the factory arm/disarm ill look into that as well. If those two aren't options, is the relay picture I just posted the right one to convert a positive lockout to a negative for this vehicle?

using the arm and disarm wires worked.

So, I used this thing for the first real time today and noticed when I remote start the vehicle, the ez-starter automatically unlocks all the doors but if I get in the vehicle and drive away without pressing the unlock/disarm button on the keyfob it will turn on and off my hvac/lights until i do. Have you experienced this? I went through the remote start options but it still seems the same. I would prefer the doors stay locked so ill always remember to hit unlock first.

I'll probably just get rid of it and install another avital but it seems to work half decent other than this annoying issue, so hopefully maybe someone has a tip to fix this issue.

Is this because I'm tied into the disarm wires and not the actual door lock wires?
maybe i'll hook up a meter and see if the unlock wire triggers when remote starting the vehicle or if just the disarm triggers.

If you didn't connect the factory disarm wire, that would be what I would check first. Here's a link to vehicle info:

Yeah, it's not connected, I looked at that guide earlier but there is no four-pin connector in the driver's kick panel.

It seems like something the new remote start is triggering, the old one didn't work this way and I can hear the remote start internal relays clicking at the same time.

edit: I pulled up a component view and it looks like it may be more centerline like under the stereo, i'll check there today.
still dont see those color wires listed though.

thinking about it, I'm not sure if that stuff is even in the truck anymore, I disabled pats a long time ago and to keep the security light from flashing on the gauge cluster I had to remove the pats modules.

one more thing, after reading through the owner's manual for this remote start it says I can use tach or oil pressure, either or but not both wires. Would ya'll recommend using the oil pressure sensor wire over the tach? I'm not really concerned about the tach losing signal and shutting off the truck or whatever but I would prefer that if oil pressure is lost that the truck automatically shut down.

I guess I'm reading the wiring information for this remote starter wrong. I can use the disarm and rearm -outputs to trigger the door locks like recommended before but it doesn't work as well as I would like. So, I got some 5 pin relays and wired up the relay for converting positive output to negative output, which works when I use 12volts grabbed from somewhere to test but I guess this remote starter doesn't send out a positive output either. none of the wires that are marked for door lock operation send out a positive output as far as I can tell.

There is relay wiring information in the manual but it seems incomplete and I don't understand how it would work.

Can someone look at this information and help me out?

wait, am i over thinking this? is the diagrams in that manual referring to the relays inside of the remote starter? Do i just need to ground 87 and wire 30 to the lock wire?
edit: i'm pretty sure that's it and i was just being a meathead.
