i have a 2015 ram. i had previously installed a directed 5x10 alarm/remote start in my truck years ago. the module died, and i decided to replace it with the fortin evo-all for remote start only. Per fortin's install instructions, they say to grab the signal for the parking lights at the headlight switch and add a 1k ohm resistor. on my previously installed DEI module, the instructions had me grab the signal for the parking lights at the BCM and made no mention of a resistor, so i never installed one. never had an issue. my question is if i tap into the parking lights at the BCM for the fortin, do i still need to use a resistor? i asked fortin's tech support and their answer was vague. pretty much that i can tap into the signal wherever i'd like but i would need to test if a resistor was needed. not sure how to go about that. curious if anybody here can shed some light on this.

On that vehicle, the Parking Lights are controlled via a MUX type signal. Depending on the resistance value either the Headlights, Parking Lights, Auto or nothing will be called for. The current 5x10 guide for your truck shows the Parking Light MUX connection at the Headlight switch without a resistor. The difference being is the 5x10 supplied signal is internally controlled to output a "ground through a 1130 ohm resistor signal" while the EVO-ALL can't directly produce that signal. Thus the EVO-ALL needs the external 1k ohm resistor added. While the preferred value is 1130 ohms, a 1k ohm resistor value will work. I would follow the Fortin wire guide. You should be able to get a !/4 watt Gold tolerance resistor off EBay or similar online site.

makes sense. any reason i can't re-use my previous connection at the BCM with a resistor in line, or should i tap in at the headlight switch as the instructions say?

Should be OK to go to the BCM for the Parking Light MUX wire. The reason Fortin was hesitant to give a carte blanch on that is because there is a White/Brown wire at the BCM that turns on the Left Front Parking Lights with a (+) input. You don't want that wire so make sure to test and use this wire : Parking Lamp (-) WHITE/BROWN (-1130 OHMS) @ BCM BLUE 24 PIN CONN, PIN 20
