Subject: What type of diodes?

I'm installing a DEI alarm into my 1997 Chevy Cavalier.  The cars door triggers are 2 wire:  one wire hot and wire ground when door is closed, both ground when door opens.  I have determined I need to install a diode for each door trigger, then connecting them to the "(-) door trigger input" wire on the alarm.  So I went looking for diodes finding out there are several different types... Zener, Blocking, etc..... What kind of diodes do I need for my alarm?  Thanks

you dont want a zener, you want a diode that can hadle some good current, a blocking diode, you can also use rectifiers, something like the 1N4001 that handle 50V reverse, and 1 A cont.

your door triggers are not a two wire setup - there are two wires, one which will only catch the drivers door, and one which will catch the passenger door(s). They are negative trigger and need to be diode isolated with a blocking diode.
The wires are : grn/blk & lt. blue (-) *3

*3 The GREEN/ black is located in the lower drivers kick panel. It catches the drivers door only. The light blue is located in the lower passenger kick panel, and catches the passenger door(s). Tap both wires and diode isolate each

I guess I'll go to Radio Shack and get some blocking diodes capable of blocking 1A each.    Thanks again
