Hi all. My gf has a 2011 Acura RDX she bought about a year ago that already had a remote start installed (Prestige/Voxx AS9076C) that uses the factory key fob for starting. The dealer wasn't aware it had a remote start so I had to get my eyes on the brain to try figuring out how to get it to remote start, did that & she's been happy. I recently kept it a couple days while I was doing some mechanical work on it & I noticed when you remote start it the lock & unlock on the fob no longer function & have to use the key to get in. She said it's always been like that but didn't want to bother me about it. I'm wondering if this is due to something in the settings of the remote start & can be corrected. I was talking to a friend about it & he said it's a Honda/Acura thing but he didn't know why & didn't know if there was a way around it. Any suggestions on a fix for this or more info on why it's the way it is if my friend was right about it being a Honda/Acura thing? Thanks in advance for any help

Go to Ebay.com and search for "07-12 Acura RDX Remote Control Module Unit"   email these people and tell them you think yours is bad and you need to know where it is located. Find it, and see if there is a wire that gets power when the ignition switch is turned to the on position. If you find said wire, cut it. Cut it in a manner that you can reconnect it if this causes other issues. There is no setting in the remote start unit. It is a common issue with most Honda vehicles of this era.

It's a common thing among many makes and models, factory key fob is disabled/ignored when the vehicle is running. Even aftermarket systems (DEI/Viper comes to mind) disable the lock/unlock commands when the key is on/vehicle running by key. The non-hack solution is to use a/the aftermarket key fob/remote for the system to unlock/lock the vehicle - the aftermarket system will continue to respond to it's own remotes during a remote start session.

You can interrupt an ignition wire with a relay. See here:

I was actually looking at that same diagram yesterday b/c i saw it said the oem remote would still function after the engine was running. I don't see any mention of a relay in the diagram or anything, how would I go about adding it? I appreciate the help, thanks

Assuming your remote start has a ground-while-running output, use it to trigger a relay and interrupt the yellow wire (pin 2) in the transponder connector. One side of the yellow would connect to 30, the other to 87a. Your ground-while-running output would connect to 85 and 86 would connect to a fused constant 12 volts positive.

Awesome. Thanks so much for your help. I'll report back with how it works once I can keep her car for a day or 2 again. Thanks again
