Audiovox Prestige Works When It Wants To

First, I would like to say that I am new to forum.

Second, I recently bought a vehicle equipped with a car alarm system.

What I do know is the system I believe is an Audiovox Prestige, has remote start, and has 2 key fobs. Both fobs are APS2K4SAW.

Recently, I installed a new radio with backup camera option. I also ran the wire for the microphone aling the drivers door pillar.

Also, while trying to get the door pillar trim off, there is a part of the alarm system that is stuck to the windshield. It looks like a remote receiver, but not sure. It has a small circuit board with some kind of spring wrapped with heat shrink tube. That piece had a cover on it that popped off. I can’t find this cover.

What happens now, is the alarm system will unlock and lock all doors, however, at random times, it seems the fob will lose its mind and not work. If I am out running errands, I have to manually unlock the door and turn ignition on while pressing valet button to disable the alarm. Once the vehicle is disabled, it seems the fobs start working again.

I’m curious if I may have knocked a connection loose or if that missing cover is messing the system up.

I did peek at the box under the dash and I am able to see a sticker on it that has a serial number of:
040800130813637940.

I also tested the batteries in both fobs. One was dead and I replaced it. Both batteries are 12 volts.

I am stumped as to why this system half works and if it is possible that I may have damaged it somehow with the radio install.

Also, can I order the piece in the windshield and replace, if that is the problem? I know it looks to be about 2” long and about 1” wide. Not even sure what that thing does, as previous owner of vehicle didn’t give me a manual for the system.

Any help would be appreciated.

The windshield part just sounds like the antenna. I don’t think the missing plastic would cause it to malfunction.

After lots of research about my alarm, I messaged Audiovox and found out that my alarm system is a Prestige APS785T. The antenna thing on the windshield is the remote start antenna.

Since I know all of that, I do have a couple of questions and may need to contact Audiovox Support one day.

The main question I have is about disabling passive arming. My system automatically arms itself in 30 seconds and based on reading the manual, this is a “dealer installed” feature.

Since I am not the original owner of my vehicle and didn’t purchase alarm system, can I disable the passive arming or at least set it up to arm at like 5 minutes?

I don't have the APS785T manual but going by the APS787-E install guide,
there is a programmable option called Passive/Active Arming that you could
change yourself.

It is in Feature Bank 2 and Feature Selection 6. The Factory Default is set to
Active so at one point someone changed it to Passive.

Page 27 of 32 shows the programming table and there are
instructions on how to make the chage using your remote on Page 26.

Once you get into programming Bank 2, as you step through the table the siren
will indicate the current option selected. If it is indeed set to Passive
you can at that point use the remote to change it to Active.

I found the manual online and downloaded it, along with the instructions of how to get into that bank of options. The trick for me will be how to get into that bank without messing up any other programming.

Currently, I have to figure out a small problem with a potential lose connection. It happened when I was installing a new radio with a back up camera feature. I believe when I was trying to find the parking brake switch and the reverse trigger wire, I may have bumped some wires to the alarm system, as the alarm sometimes works with the fob, after installling the radio.

I’m curious if I can unplug everything from the brain and plug it back in, if the alarm will start going off?

I’ve never installed an alarm system, but it doesn’t seem like a hard task, since all the wires and connections are already present.

I don’t think it is a fuse, because the alarm will arm itself in passive mode and go off if I open the door. I don’t think it is a fob issue, as the buttons work with the doors open. When I close them, it may work to lock and unlock it, but if it sits for about 24 hours, it won’t work via the fob.

The fob has good battery. They both measure 12v on the multi meter. I just need to spend a good hour or two and make sure I have good connections.

After that, I believe I can then tackle changing the passive arming setting.
