Hello,

I am installing a Compustar 697a (CM-2500) plus DAS module into my 2012 Kia Soul 1.6L Manual. I am primarily interested in getting the fob and basic security with the Kia Soul being a commonly stolen car due to no chipped key and an easily bypassed ingnition cylinder. I have rewired engine harnesses and done radio installs, but I have not done a security install. I will solder the splices into the factory harness. Here are a few questions I wanted to ask to make sure I know 100% how to wire this correctly:

1) Do I need to solder in a diode between replay pins 86 and 85 on the FT-ELOCK Starter Kill relay that came in my kit? Would this be a correct way to do this?

2) Is there anything additional I need to hook up in the wiring diagram below? I just want the fob and the security element to work at a basic level, are there any inputs I need to hook up which I am curently missing?

3) Anything else important I should keep in mind as a first-time DIY security system installer?

Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to mention this is a base model, with a regular key and no factory fob.

Correction: I have the starter wire from the ignition switch going to 87a not 87.

I am having an issue with the CompuStar 697a I just installed in a 2012 Kia Soul Base model. I soldered all the connections. Everything initially tested out good. The lock function from the keyfob always works. The issue is that the unlock function only works intermittetly. However, I know the signal is getting to the alarm, as the parking lights flash twice when pressing the unlock button on the fob, but the unlock is not triggered.

Here is what I have observed:
1) The lock appears to always work. One press locks, and a second press locks again with the horn activated.
2) The unlock works as desired sometimes, but when it fails the parking lights are always still light.
3) Everything else seems to work correctly, the starter cutout relays prevents starting when the alarm is armed, and the parking lights and horn are trigged if I open the car from the inside or try to start it with the alarm armed.
4) This all happens in within a few minutes, while the car is sitting in place. It seems like it works better from inside the car, but I have still seen the same behavior where the unlock does not trigger but the parking lights do.
5) The unlock function on the drivers door which I tapped always works.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can check? Is there any setting that would cause this?

While I've never had an issue with KIA/Hyundai locks I have heard of some other vehicle that require a "stronger" ground signal. You could verify that you are on the correct Unlock wire and the connection is solid at both ends. The next step might be to add a relay to the Unlock output wire to provide a strong ground signal. Relay wiring would be :
Relay Pin 85 to Compustar Unlock output wire
Relay Pin 86 to +12V constant
Relay Pin 87 to Chassis Ground
Relay Pin 30 to Soul Unlock wire

It might also be a good idea to add a quenching diode to the relay. Use a 1N4007 diode across Pins 85 to 86 with the band towards Pin 86. This will protect the Compustar if multiple Unlock pulses cause a large spike.

Soldering is fun!

If your not using a module for convivence stuff (door locks, tach, ect) you have to directed tech doc 1300. If you use the site top right corner it will bring up that doc

or this, cant guarantee this will pull up for you

So far the fix that has worked is wiring into the two turn unlock relay. As per this poster, the standard unlock circuit goes to sleep after a period of time:
