Hi
I have a 2014 tacoma regular cab that I converted to power windows and keyless entry with avital 2101. The unit auto locks when key is turned to "on". What I would like is for the doors to lock when in drive and not when the car is keyed to on. I'm thinking I need to find a wire that sends 12 volt when the car is put into gear or drive. Does anyone know if there a wire that does this?
Thanks in advance

this is usually done via a speed sense wire, however it doesn't show 12v. I think you are SOL if you want aftermarket lock while in Drive. aftermarket units in my experience all rely on ignition, so when you turn the car off, it unlocks and when you start the car it locks. You could try and see if you can tap into the "D" light, but it might not be a true 12v signal.. *(use a multimeter to test)*

thanks I might have to try that. I know other car models are able to wire it to lock when in gear just not sure exactly what wire there tapping or if its a programming setting

Perhaps you could trigger it from the foot brake? When you get in the car, you typically don't need to touch the brake but when you shift into any gear you would. It may be suitable for mimicking the timing that you are looking for. Maybe a relay setup that sends 1 pulse until the circuit is reset.

Only thing is it needs a constant 12v. The wire it uses is 12v ignition.

That's a factory/OEM function/feature. Transmission computer knows when it's put in gear and it can communicate that to the Body Control Module (BCM) which can activate the power locks if all conditions are correct.
