Previous owner of 2014 Toyota Camry had remote start installed. Remote says Viper 7146V on it......on the windshield is an antenna that has XR Plus on it and OK/16G on the side .....the only box I can locate under the dash has 1 label.....I uploaded a pic of that....it says
P/N DBALL2
ID: 7604138
Lot 3701
Dt: 15J

The remote start worked the first 2 years we had it.....now has not worked for about 2 years. The remote still locks and unlocks the doors......and on the unit under the dash an orange light flashes when I trigger the lock or unlock buttons, but no light flash when I trigger the remote start.
The original installer is about 200 miles away and I was able to contact him, and says he does not install any switches that would turn the remote start off.

Any suggestions on trouble shooting?posted_image

unplug the d2d (white upper left connector of your picture) from the bypass module (DB2) and plug it back on, it should work. Sometimes it just needs to reset itself, there is a process for doing a soft reset but I've seen that unplugging that wire does the trick. Another option is to unplug them all including the remote starter brain, then connect that white connector last, from the remote starter, unplugging just the heavy gage wire should be enough.

Thanks! I unplugged both those wires, and plugged the white one in last......still not working. I read this device in the picture is an interface......is there another device, the remote starter brain? If there is I cannot locate it.

Yes, that module is the bypass for the key chip. The brain should be the other side where that white connector plugs into.

Check the fuses to the brain and see if they are not blown; it usually has two main power fuses, they are on the wire of the heavy gage ones. Check that all connections are secure to the module, etc.

some cars require you to cycle the key to finalize the programming, you just have to read up the manual. There are LED lights that show if something is wrong. The remote uses safety features such as if the door is opened while starting the car, it may not work, if the hood is open, check to see if the hood pin has not failed or broken. That the neutral safety switch has been grounded, if something is wrong, the parking lights will flash a number of times after the remote start fails.

I found the main unit.....DirectTech 4X05.2-16G.....no alarm, just remote start and door lock/unlock.

I found Installation guide online from Direct Tech......they say a valet button MUST be installed as it is required for disabling the Remote start.....even show a port for it in the diagram......but this unit does not have that port, and no valet button or switch anywhere around dash.

All fuses are good. Lights have never flashed when using the remote start or door unlock and lock.
Unplugged all wires and then replugged, also on the DBALL2 device.....still no remote start.

How can you tell which unit is malfunctioning? posted_image posted_image

Do a soft reset and try reprogramming again. DO NOT exceed the 3 second hold during the reset as it will do a hard reset and only certain people can flash those with the XKloader to configure the bypass for your car. Use the D2D Installation as I see it connected.

Reprogram using the following (it is almost the same for Push to Start cars (PTS)):

Just be careful when doing these steps, follow the connection instructions carefully.
