Subject: 97 thunder bird need help with trunk

i just installed a m11 marksman alarm in a 97 thunder bird everything went smooth until it came time to hook up the remote trunk. I hooked it up the way the instruction book shows with the relay. When i hit the trunk button on the remote noting happends. I checked all wires on relay everything is ok here is how i have it..
86:12v, 87:12v, 85:grey wire from module, 30:trunk switch.
Is there something im doing wrong? when i touch the 85 to a active negative it pop the trunk, but when i try it with the remote nothing happends. I tested the wire (Orange wire from module) while I pressed the trunk button on the remote and im showing a 3sec negative pulse.

I'm alittle confused..If you show a 3sec neg pulse with the orange wire when you hit the trunk release button on the alarm, this should go to pin 85 on the relay. If 30 goes to the purple / YELLOW of the factory trunk switch your all set. Everything else looks correct.

that's whats confusing me...i show a 3 sec pulse on the orange wire, but when i connect it to the relay (85 pin) and hit the trunk button on the remote i get nothing. I checked to see if the relay set up is correct by getting a wire connecting it to the 85 pin and touching ground and it works. but not with the alarm orange wire.? I was thinking it might need more ground power how can i amp the 3 sec pulse with anther relay?

huh that is weird. a relay will activate with a very low positive or ground pulse, ....it should work....good luck!

Are both your 12 volt wire constant ? If they are the relay is wired correctly. What I would do is make sure that your relay in not bad ( change it out with a different one ). If this still doesn't work, try to use another AUX channel on the system.

Try this: It will requre another relay. One to boost the ground and one for the actual trunk release. The relay that you have now is OK except the (-) input will come from pin 30 other the other relay and the trunk activation wire will be your input for the first relay. Here's the wiring configuration:

Relay # 1 : Ground Boost relay -

  • Pin 85 : Trunk release activation wire from the alarm/RS unit (-) trigger
  • Pin 86 : Constant 12 Volts ( Fused at 20 amps )
  • Pin 87 : GROUND to Chassis ( MUST BE A CLEAN CONNECTION TO METAL, no paint, dirt or grease )
  • Pin 30 : Go to Pin 85 on Second Relay
  • Pin 87a : NOT USED

Relay # 2 : Trunk Activation Relay

  • Pin 85 : From Pin 30 on other relay
  • Pin 86 : Constant 12 Volts ( Use the same wire as above )
  • Pin 87 : Constant 12 Volts ( Use the same wire as above )
  • Pin 30 : Connect to PURPLE / YELLOW wire of trunk Release
  • Pin 87a: NOT USED

This shuold work & if not, you may have a grounding issue problem with the alarm system. Make sure that ALL GROUND INPUTS are absolute.
