Here's a relatively simple question to make you feel smart:
I'm planning on wiring a two wire actuator (where you have to reverse the polarity) to a momentary push button switch. The plan is : push button to open, push same button to close. Could you pls verify that the following set-up will do what I want :
1) wiring the relays in this fashion :

2) using the following push button switch, with the middle lead to ground and the other two to the alarm lock output (86) and alarm unlock output (85) leads of the relays above:

3) What size fuse should I use before the 12volts hits the relays (this set-up will be on a motorcycle)?

if you hook it up to the switch that way, it will always send power to one of the states, so the actuator will keep going, then when you push the button it will change the actuator to go the other way, but go right back when you let go of the button, i would recommend using a rocker switch, that actually has 2 switches in it, you would need different actuators to use the same switch to do both, because you nee to know the present state of the actuator.
BTW, you'll still need the two relays shown in the diagram you posted to control the actuators. The coils will be energized by the two outputs from the relays in the diagram in the link I posted above.

Thanks, that's great info. I like the set-up with the latching relay....but I can't find one at Radio Shack, do they go by any other names?
You're welcome. It's unlikely you'll find one at Radio Shack. Your best bet will be a local electronics shop or on line.

Is there a way to wire up the recommended latching relay circuit so that I'd have an LED comes on and stays on whle the actuator is pulled in, and goes off and stays off while the actuator is extended?
