Whats the Business Everyone...

This is my first install and its in a 96 Crown Vic PI.  I planned all my steps out before taking action so I wouldnt be shooting in the dark when it came time for the install.  Well I wired everything and hooked the battery back up and the alarm shows no sign of power, not even a LED flash.  No blown fuses in the harness wires so im stuck.  I was concerned about my grounds but they were in contact with the chassis so they cant be the problem.  Can you all throw out some points that I can try and check??

Thanks in Advance

  • Check to see if you need to do a initial programming using the hood pin switch
  • check to make sure that all points of entry ( hood, trunk , door ) are closed
  • make sure that your not in valet mode
  • make sure that your ignition and power wires are in fact the right verified wires ( not switched around )
  • make sure unit is plugged in all the way ( sounds stupid, but make sure that the plug is clipped in all the way

Thanks for the suggestions, Ive tried all of the above with the exception of initial programming.  I'll fool wit it some more this afternoon, once I figure out if the brain actually works i'll go ahead and rewire everything this weekend.

Hey VicVicious,

Start by plugging only the ground, the main power and don't forget the antenna as it is an external receiver. Then press either remote, it should work right out of the box without programming. Once that works you can continue the install.  posted_image

i had a call out to a ford today , this guy who called me looked like he had installed an engine and  transmission when i got there.

he had oil all over his face and clothes.

his girlfriend came out as i rolled up and said "Hi im so glad you came"

"he has been at it for 2 days now ! "

" please sort it out for him ! ! "

I looked at what he was installing at replied with the words .

" ok , well that alarm is very old "  where did you get it from?

he said,  " I got it from this company that i buy my DJ equipment from"

"i payed £150.00 for it "

so i said , well i could have supplied and installed a better alarm for that price.

so needless to say he wasn't  happy !

i started to look at his install ..

he had done a bad job.

the siren was so close to the wiper motor !

the  wipers  hit  it  when  they  were  switched on !!

the wires were running all over the engine  and the connections had not been soldered anywhere.

this was a real mess !

the reason he had called me was because the alarm wasnt responding .

i checked his wiring and found the fault in a few mins

he had wired the indicator wire up to the neg out of the cars wire .

so what needless to say , the first time he armed it the brain was fried.

Dont try this at home folks.

fuse the indicator wires on the alarm.

UPDATE====>>>

Well the brain was "brain dead" so I swapped it out and everything is working with the exception of 2 things.  I have an ex-police car and if any of you have installed alarms in interceptors, you may know that they cut the wires runnin to the dome light so it wont come on when the doors are opened.  I tapped into the dome light wire and it was still "live" the car is just in dark mode. But check this out,  ALL of my doors except the drivers door sets off the alarm when armed and the door is opened??posted_image ??

And the other thing, my on board shock sensor doesnt seem to be sensing shock even when I adjust the sensitivity and no matter if its mounted or sitting??  Are on board sensors that bad??

Thanks in Advance and thanks to all that replied
