Ok- heres the deal. The rod I am electrifying for a handicapped man has a DEI Sidewinder which is being used primarily for a central locking system. It is also set up so it will remotely open the tailgate of the car. Since he doesn't have full use of his hands (he has to use the middle joint on his fore and middle fingers to grasp and operate) Does anyone know of a remote with raised buttons that will work with the Sidewinder (I think it's a 3000ESP) or is there a modification anyone can suggest? This is one of those tiny details you have to think about on a project like this

I would plastic weld some nicely machined pvc to the buttons.

Thanks Chases'- That's a usable idea. I hadn't really thought of that , I've had so much else to think about on this car, the remote buttons didn't occur to me until I looked at the remote this morning.

I like raising the buttons, that would be a nice touch.
If you look around a Home Depot or whatever, you should be able to find these little sticky rubber round bumpers. The idea is that you put them on your kitchen cabinets, so it doesn't make a loud bang when you close the door.
It would be an especially nice touch if you could get those rubber things in different colors.
Also, I'm sure the adhesive they come with isn't that great, so you may want to clean it off with solvent and use something else.

Another neat idea- especially with the different color tabs. Thanks, Chris.
Normally, I wouldn't even think of doing this mod- we all- well, most all of us anyway- reach into our pocket, pull out the plip, and start banging away with our thumb to get the central locking, alarm, or remote start to do what we want. But having to completely engineer a complete electrical system from scratch, including making parts to suit my customers' needs (custom HVAC switch panel to operate a very modified A/C system, anyone?) has forced me to look at ALL the details. I had to have one meeting with him just to study his hands, range of motion, and so on just to better understand what he really needed. His thumbs are almost totally useless, and so, raised buttons on the remote so he can operate it with his finger joints.
