If you thought you saw weird things listen to this. A customer, a good customer of mine fixed a 1994 chevy 1500 pickup. He put in it an engine out of the 1999 chevy truck with the 1999 BCM, however he installed a 1997 steering column into it but didn't have the key so he had one made at a locksmith. Well the problem is like you would expect is that the truck does not strart, it cranks but doesn't run unless he sprays fuel directly at the injectors, but then when that is gone the truck dies (Seems like a Passlock II problem). He did a bunch of wiring modifications to match the wiring from the older column to the new electrical system of the engine. What somebody told the guy is that an alarm shop could install something like a DEI module like 555L and then the truck would run even though he doesn't have the original key. I tried to tell him that it won't work, because first I need the original key to program the 555L, Second since the column is out of a 97' it doesn't even have the wires for the Passlock II system. he left the truck and I tried a few things on it, but really I am very pessimistic about this one so I am about to give it back to him.
Now the question is what do you guys think, any ideas, suggestions, previous experience or tricks I could use.Does any one know of how the Passlock II could be bypassed completely. What could I recommend the guy to do after he tows the truck out of my store in a few days?
THANK you very much ANY and response is appreciated.
Now the question is

big problem as one way or another you will need the steering colum stuff to program any type of bypass you put in, i did see a few days ago here about someone who done a similar thing and they were sent instructions on how to reprogram the passlock II for a new key cylinder, this may work for you and you can just wire in a resistor and program it for that

If everything is hooked up with the exception of passlock then try this, take the key he has for the vehicle and try starting it(the engine will die) then just leave the vehicle alone with the ignition in the run position for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes go by try to start the truck again, if there are no other problems other then the lack of passlock system the truck should start.

Do this but make sure all doors are closed, start the car let it die, then leave in the on position for 15 to 20 minutes...crawl out of the driver side if you have to......I had to do this when I swaped clusters with my cavalier... it will reset the resistor <theftloc> and start right up..

there is a signal(positive or negative) that the computer is waiting for from the passlock module to allow fuel to the engine, if it doesn't receive it, well you know. You don't need all the steering column mombo jombo. you'd have to have a dealer service manual to see the PCM pinouts to figure which cavity is right. I don't have a dealer manual for that year, but my guess is GM didn't change much. I'll check to see if I can find something.

Actually this car has a 97' column, which means that it doesn't hve any Passlok II hook ups. I tried the key in the ignition for 15 min today but it didn't work. Could you guys tell me the procedure in more detail.
    Thanks for the replies.

This next step is very important. Close the doors, put the key in and start the car. The car will start then die. It is supposed to do that. DO NOT TURN THE KEY OFF OR OPEN THE DOORS!!! You'll see that the theft system has cut on and THEFT SYSTEM is blinking on the right of the cluster. What it's doing is resetting its self to the new cluster. After 10 minutes the light will stop flashing and just stay on. Turn the key off. Wait 5 seconds and restart the car. The car should fire right up. Check to make sure the gauges are working. If so, take it down the block to make sure the odometer is working. If it is, put the dash back together and you're done.

my cavalier was a 97 and it has a theft deterrant on it... try the above steps and if that doesnt work it could be a wiring problem..
