Ok so Im a newcomer to car alarms. My questions are straight forward and simple. I have a black widow base model alarm. Here is the only thing I can find as far as "wiring information" goes :
12V|WHITE/ black |+ |ign harness, f/b plug |
| STARTER|BLACK/ white |+ |ign harness, f/b plug |
| IGNITION|BLACK / YELLOW |+ |ign harness, f/b plug |
| ACCESSORY|yellow |+ |ign harness, f/b plug |
| SECOND ACCESSORY|blue/white |+ |ign harness, f/b plug |
| PARKING LIGHTS +|RED / green | |switch harness, f/box |
| HEADLIGHTS|RED / blue *3 |+ |sw harness, f/b plug |
| DOOR TRIGGER|GREEN/ red |- |either running brd *2 |
| TRUNK/HATCH PIN|GREEN/ black |- |at light or indctr *2 |
| TACHOMETER|blue | |2-pin at dist, tach *1 |
| BRAKE WIRE|GREEN / WHITE |+ |brake pedal switch |
| HORN TRIGGER|blue/red *4 |- |steering column |
Ok now my question is, when i look at the wiring harness under the kick panel, there are two (GREEN/ red) wires as described above for a (-) door trigger. Is one a positive and one a negative or would that not be? My alarm calls for a connection to a single negative door trigger, and one for a single positive door trigger. Do honda crx's use two negs and two pos's from each door requiring me to use a diode on each? Help me out on this guys.
My second question is, does the trunk hatch pin mean thats the wire I want to use for the alarm to go off if the hatch is opened? Sorry for the newcomer questions.
What I also meant to ask was if maybe that identicle (GREEN/ red) wire is just the return feed coming off the fuse box or soemthing. For the negative door trigger, any idea what the wiring color on that is?
In terms of connecting the wires from the alarm harness to the actual existing car wires, is the best idea to use solder and shrink wrap, or would barrel connectors be a better idea? What do you guys use?
You only need to hook up one of the two wires on your alarm, either negative (usually green) or positive (usually purple), the reason you have two of them is for easy of installation. In this case you hook up the negative since the door trigger s negative. I think in the CRX the GREEN/ red you found should be good for both doors, you'll have to check that just open and close one door at a time and see if they both work, if not just run a wire from each door pin and then diode isolate them, although it might not be nesessary on the older honda. For your second quetion the answer is yes.
Thanks Bullet Tooth. Much appreciated! As far as how you make connections, do you use solder and heat shrink, or three way barrel crimps?
Solder and heat shrink is the cleaner and more reliable way of doing things, the connectors work just fine and take up less time, but since it's your car you'd probably want the better quality so it's really your decision
