Is it possible to add a remote start on a factory keyless entry/alarm for a 2003 Kia Optima SE V6?

Does the alarm for the Optima have an extra channel that you can use? Is there an extra button on the remote that you don't use?

Yes, you need to buy a unit that has an input wire that requires three pulses to trigger the start feature. What you do is use the lock wire on your vehicle (in your case it is a white wire at the underdash fuse panel). You tap the white wire and connect it to the trigger wire on the starter unit you installed, then when you press the lock button on the keyless entry three times in a row, the car will start. One thing to thin kabout though before going through with something like that, is that your range will only be as good as the range of your factory keyless entry which is typically no greater than 50 feet.

When the alarm/keyless entry is activated it also cuts off the ignition. Will this still work if the ignition is disabled?

Go with an aftermarket alarm/rs combo.  It will answer all your questions.  More convenient
for you !  Might I suggest the Matrix RS3, I know it has factory arm and disarm capability.  Great alarm !

From what I can tell, there is no disarm wire on that alarm, so if you were going to go with anything an aftermarket remote starter/alarm combo would be your best bet and you would have to discontinue use of the original factory transmitter. Someone with experience with Kia's may be able to shed more light on this subject.
