I've got a '78 Caddy, and I have to crank the engine for 15-20 seconds for it to start. Does anyone know of any remote start unit that will crank the engine this long?

Starters are desigbed to be used with FI or TBI units. You woul djust have to get lucky and hope it cranks long enough for the car to start, sorry.

I have remote start on my 1987 cutlass with a carb engine. It works fine most of the time, as long as the engine has been recently started. But sometimes when I let my car sit overnight, or for 8 or more hours, the remote start wont start it. I have to get in and pump the gas a few times then it will start right up. But as long as the engine is still hot, or even just kinda warm, it will start right up. And sometimes it will even start when I have let it sit overnight, but only sometimes. But say for instance I go somehwere, I park my car for an hour or two and come back out to it, the remote start will work every time.

I had a remote start on my 77 dodge charger... if you have an accessory on your starter module, hook that up to a lock actuator and somewhat rig that to the module. It worked well for me.

For one that is GHETTO.. .... That is asking for your car to go up in flames... If it dosent start the first time and does the second you will have lots of gasoline fumes waiting to ignite. You may have been lucky but I personally like having transportatioin. As for the problem at hand get a mechanic to go through your engine and get it in tip top running condition (maybee a little rich), but you will need to press the gas for the first time of the day or if sitting for 6 or more hours due to the disbursement of the fumes. I've seen the Actuator or Trunk Solonoid set up installed on several vehicles and haven't been "ghetto" Now the average guy also wouldn't think to use a solonoid for the pull on a cold morning. Ideally you would want to make sure your engine is set up, have a co-worker with a 454 bored over 60, doing a remote start in a 72 MC, without solonoids. This is something the average DIY kind of guy should seriously reconsider before jumping into.
