hi i was just wondering, i have a 1997 sunfire gt with passlock 1. i used the thin blac wire in the harness with the 2 big red wires.  when i connected it to my tester, i got -.857 ohm's. is it possible im using the wrong wire or do i have to start the car, then test it. so far ive just put the ignition to run and tested it.

thanks

The instructions I've read in the past suggest testing both just to "ign" and after moving the key all the way to "crank". The car won't start (or stay running). The readings have been different in the cars I've done.

You should be reading voltage, not resistance. It will test as a ground during cranking only. Put red probe to constant +12v, and the black probe to the black wire you think is the bulb test wire. Meter should show about +13v when you crank the car. It sounds like you have the right wire, but test it anyway.
