Sorry this is so long, I want to be thorough in my description. I posted this before, but didn't get any help so I'm hoping the new subject line helps.

I recently installed a Command Start 2400/2500 remote starter. Dont' laugh, but its in a 1974 VW Beetle, with a stock engine and the stock points ignition. I managed to get it working, and it starts the engine just fine, but it shuts down after a few minutes, the amount of time is random. It could run for 30 seconds, or it might run for 3 minutes before the remote starter shuts off the engine. I thought I had a defective starter, so I grabbed another one from an auto wrecker, but this one is a 2400, the original one I have is a 2400/2500. It does the same thing. After about 3 shutdowns, the only way to get the unit to work again, is to reset it using the jumper inside of the unit, and then completely reprogramming it.

The poor photocopy I have of the manual, is for the 2400/2500, so I think I have the right manual.

I'm wondering if its getting a noisy tach signal, and is shutting down due to "over-rev" detection? If so, what can I do to clean up the signal? The points have been replaced along with the cap, rotor, condenser, plugs/wires. Since this tune-up, it runs longer than before, but the problem is still there.

Another thing I noticed was that after messing with it for a while, I put the ignition key in and started the engine with the key. After a few minutes, I saw the parking lights flash, and with the engine already running, the remote starter "bumped" the starter. It did this a few times until I unplugged the remote starter unit.

Any advice would really help me. I'm so close to getting it working perfectly!
