Hi people!

Is there such as a thing that will start my car automatically after a specified time (as i set it) so that it can turn on the AC or heater?

I have a remote starter installed but my car is in the parking lot so I can't really start it from my office. I thought it would be nice if it would start by itself automatically through a timer.

Have a good day!

If you get one of the FM two-way remote starters that has a clock on the remote you can usually program the remote to remote start at a certain time of day or every few hours.

I'm not a "professional" installer, I just do it for a hobby.

But I have a remote starter already and i'm finding a way to activate this using another timer device, or whatever is out there to make this happen.

Does the RS have an AUX start activation wire where if you ground this connection it will start the remote starting process ?

I don't know if they sell this stuff anymore since alarms nowadays have a pretty decent range. But a few years ago I used to install amplified antenna range extenders for the clifford systems and it worked pretty good. You might check if those things are still available.

DEI timer and temp remote start interface

This provides a (-) output to remote start the alarm. You must have an input on the alarm that accepts a (-) to cause it to start the process.

This unit will start the car at any set time "once" or "weekly". Also it can be set to start the system if the temp passes the set limits (thresholds).

WHAT kind of alarm is in it currently?

p.s. the install and user guide is at direced.com under "valet" 556T

elrayo, where did you get amplified antenna range extenders for clifford alarms?  how much extra does it add?

Clifford used to manufacture those (Clifford Brand) and I installed them in the arrow systems they doubled the range, since DEI now owns Clifford you should ask a DEI dealer if they still make those. I haven't seen anybody else make such devices because of FCC issues I think...

The range extender is pretty much just an RF preamp; you can use any broadband or "DC to Daylight" style RF preamp and it should work. The trick is finding one that's designed for mobile applications where power draw must be minimized.

If you can't find a clifford unit, you might try Radio Shack to see if they have any broadband preamps you could use. Your remote most likely works at 47, 280, 300 or 4-hundred-something megahertz... There are a variety of low-power unlicensed bands designed for remote controls and such. The remote may say on the back what frequency it uses... if so, you can get a narrowband preamp designed just for that band...

Good luck,
DDR

If you park in a garage at home you might want to get a carbon monoxide detector. This way if it you call in sick and the thing starts in the garage you'll get a warning.
