I was curious, I want to be able to control the rear window of my 95 toyota 4runner, and while lookingfor car alarms, I see some that come with a window module. In order to descend and ascend this rear tailgatewindow, do I purchase just a regular window module?I want to purchase everything possible that I need, before I go to an installer and find out I need more stuff. Thanks! David

You can use a regular window module for the rear window. You just have tag the wiring at the rear motor, in most cases.

If I remember correctly, the rear window on the older 4-runners has a negative trigger. If you find the wire you can add a relay from your trunk release wire, if it's a low current output to give you a stronger (12v-) output,(if your alarm has a built in relay then you won't need an extra one) and then as long as you hold the trunk release button down, the hatch window will roll down.

The problem with that is that you need to power the acc or ign wire for the motor to have power.

I've used a test light to roll down the rear window on a 4-runner with the doors locked and the key off. I'm not sure how many production years this was possible, but the truck did it on was a 94 or 95.

I'm a bit confused. A trunk release wire? What exactly is that. Sorry I'm so ignorant. Also, is it important to look for a system with built in relays, and if so how many is a good number? I've been debating over which alarm to get...The lynx 2000 which i think is the same as Airwolf- a korean auto security company....or maybe the Innotek which I think is the same as the Aladdin a-2000 systems... Or maybe the Delta 5005 systems, M-3600 (Commando FM-870), or some of these cellular phone style remote ones...arghhhhh...I can even pinpoint an alarm system, because they are all looking the same online, and I haven't a clue on what is quality and what is junk. Thanks for the above advice guys!

Trunk release wire would be the output of the alarm. As far as built in relays, all you really need is one for the parking light output. I have no recommendation on those alarms as I have never dealt with them.

The trunk release wire is a neg or pos output from the alarm system which can be used to activate the OEM trunk release circuit( or activate anything else). Most alarm manufacturers tell you how many "channels" an alarm has. The # of channels is the number of outputs the alarm has to activate various features(lock\unlock, start, trunk release, window up, window down, etc.) Extra or unused chan. can be used to activate different features or add-on modules(window roll down module). Choose whatever brand you feel comfortable with, just make sure the alarm has additional channels.
