I have not done one of these in a long time.  I have to do a remote start alrm in one next week.  Any tips?, I know I have to bypass the resistor in the key but don't remember how.  Can someone help me out?  I thought it was a 33 ohm resistor accross the orange wire in the column, but not sure.  Thanks  Scott

The key has a unique resistor value in the key, you need to use a DMM to measure the resistance. Then find a resistor within 5% of the value measured.

Putting the resistor across the two thin white wires inside the orange casing would permanently bypass the VATS, so you should either use a relay, or get a bypass module depending on what security level you want to maintain. If you get a bypass module then you do not need to buy a resistor since most of them use dipswitches to set the resistence. If you use a relay and a resistor, a thief could more easily use the resistor to bypass the VATS, then hotwire the car. A thief could also use the bypass module, but it would take longer to do so. Its up to the owner and how secure they want their car. There are other options too though.
