I'm rewiring the FM Transmitter on my alarm... does anyone know where i should put it?

I've had the cable extended so I put it on the upper part of the back window... but my range is only about 800 yards... the max it SHOULD be is 2500 yards.

I have a '97 Integra and I heard that the best place in that car would be to take out the 2 screws in the upper insterment cluster, take out the bezel and shove the FM Transmitter up inside the top of the dash about the insterment cluster.

What does everyone think?

I would take the "A" pillar panel off and place it there. It's high and also not accessible to theives. If you place it in the instrument panel, you may run into some EMI and reduce the range  even further.

2500 yards?  Holy crap that's far!

Is the "A" pillar the plastic molding piece that runs by your head down to the dash?

What's EMI?

yes 2500 yards... IT IS FAR...

I just got an e-mail back from Delta (they sell and install these alarms):

"Hello again Jason, It is a better location (in the dash above the insterment cluster) because it is above the beltline of the car(glass all around), and it away from metal( A pillar, roofline, and window tint) Mounting it on the windshield is not bad, but in my experience this greatly increases the range.  Dale"

What do you think?

EMI is electro magnetic interference from devices that produce or carry power through them. The "A" pillar is the piece that runs down the windshield an connects to the dash. If Dale was talking about mounting it just above the instrument cluster on the outside of the casing where you see your speedo and gas gauge and such , this is a very bad place to put it. The reason why is because the unit is a two way transmitter receiver combonation so if the antenna is " ripped out " then there is no way it will be able to transmit to the remote control that someone is breaking into the car. You have to hide this antenna somewhere a thief can not rip it out.
