Hello All, I just got asked by a guy in town that just bought a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 if he could do a remote start on it. This guy has got a razor sharp memory so I told him that he could as long as he left it in neutral. Now the thing is, he has got a turbo timer on it (with a harness for it) and he wants to have starter kill. I have installed remote start on turbo vehicles (a WRX being my most recent) but not one that had a turbo timer installed on it. Is there anything that I need to know prior to my doing this (I told the guy that I would do it on monday). I also came across this site that Directed Electronics has called (www.directechs.com) and I was wondering what I would have to do to gain access to this site. I'd only plan on using it very little seeing as most of what I need to know is on here. I think it would do good to know everything else that is not on here. Anything that you guys/girls could tell me about this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! ------------- Joe Astor

I hope you realize you are opening yourself up to a potential lawsuit by installing a remote start designed for automatics onto a standard vehicle. What happens when his "razor sharp memory" fails him and he remotes starts his car into a building or a kid and someone dies. Our country is lawsuit happy, so don't be surprised if you are part of one.
As far as the WRX goes, you could have hooked up a wire at the cars ECU to the remote starter that would prevent it from attempting to start in gear. Its shows ground in gear, positive in neutral. Hooking it up to the hood input of the remote start prevents it from starting in gear. Very few cars have a wire that acts like that. I have no idea if an Evo does.
As far as getting a password to Directechs, I doubt you are going to get someone to give you their password.

I wouldn't install the remote start unless your doing a clifford manual transmission remote start. There is a chance that he will lend the car to someone and he'll go to install it and it will drive and hit someone or hit another car. ------------- Tommy
