Hello, I am currently working on installing an alarm system into my 2000 olds alero.  I've already looked at some of the information here provided on the12volt.  Has helped a lot actually, but I do need some help find a couple of things.

1. I need to connect a wire from the alarm to the door that supplies a - when opened... same for the trunk... I was looking around and believe I have to use diodes when I tap into the wires?  Also, which wires (and where are they) that i exactly tap into?

2. What type of locking system does this 2000 olds alero have?

3. For the ignition, which wire is what?   I need to know which wire supplies a +12v when the ignition is in the 'on' position.

Thanks for any help you can provide.  I think thats all the questions i have for now.  I have 3 years electrical training in school and i've done wiring stuff many times in cars before (neons, subs, head units, the simple stuff).  This is my first time tackling something a bit more complex in a car :-)

- Nick

1. Light GREEN/ black, in one of the plugs in the driver's kick panel, catches the driver's door.

Light blue catches the other door(s). If it's a two-door coupe, the wire is in the passenger kick panel. If it's a four-door sedan, it's in a bundle of wires that comes out sideways from under the driver's seat, then runs toward the rear of the car.

Yes, you'll need two diodes.

2. White wire, driver's kick panel, in the same plug where you got the driver's door trigger. Straight negative pulse to lock the doors, negative pulse through a small resistor to unlock.

3. The ignition wires are all standard GM colors. Drassch's information is correct. But as with any proper installation, you should of course test the function of each wire before connecting your alarm to it.

Both pinks are tied together at the switch....use either one.
