2003 toyota tacoma power unlock

I am trying to install a viper 550esp on my 2003 tacoma two door. I have everything hooked up and working except the power UNLOCK wire. I tested the purple wire in the DKP and it doesn't show anything on my meter. I worked the pass. key switch like the diagram said. The power LOCK works fine. I also unplugged the connector that the purple wire feeds into, and the locks still operated correctly, making me think that the purple wire has nothing to do with the locks. Another interesting thing I was able to figure out was that when I unplug the harness that the LOCK wire was in, I can jump two wires in the harness and the doors will UNLOCK. One of these wires shows about 10 volts all the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am thinking that the child safety switch might be the problem, but is the purple wire the right wire for UNLOCK? Is there a special way to test it other than what is suggested from DEI?

Contary to what DEI says, you don't need to get involved with the child safety wire on a Tacoma. At least not on any of the several dozen of them I've worked on.

The lock/unlock wires are all available at the small plug on the front of the fusebox, just below the fuses.

I forget the colors, but there is one wire that will be negative lock off either of the door key cylinders.

There is one wire that will test as a ground when you turn the driver's door key to unlock, and another that will test off the passenger's key cylinder. It probably is purple like you say.

Anyway, either of those two wires will work, but the driver's one will require a double pulse, and that means it will take a little bit longer for your doors to unlock, which isn't very cool.

So I would just say to go right below the fuses, and get the passenger's key cylinder wire there. Even if you didn't know the color, there aren't more than fifteen or so wires there, so it wouldn't take long to test them all.
