i have a 1998 cavalier with a clifford matrix rs 2 alarm/keyless/remote start unit.
i figured i could use a relay to take 12volts into 87 and ground 85, use 30 as the output and 86 as the trigger. i think i can run 30 to the switch and have it power the circuit when i hit the remote, but there are a few questions i have, if what im thinking will even work.
The install book for the unit says that ch4 is programmable for latched/latched, reset with ignition, 30sec timed output/second unlock output. can i use one of those settings for what i want it to do? and will it be manually controlled once i put the key in and take control of the car? or is it going to keep running until i turn it off from the remote?
any input or ideas from experience will help.
1st of all as for the programming. You -don't- want to use latched because it will require you to manually turn it off. Either reset with IGN or 30 delay would work depending on the defroster. If the defrost is the old style where you flip a switch and the defroster stays on until you turn off the swith then you would want to use the "Reset with ign" only. If the defroster was timed (like momentary push button) and shut it self off then you could use the 30sec timed output.
Using the "reset w/ign" should be ok since hopefully the windows would be defrosted by the time you enter the car. If they weren't then you could just hit the switch to finish off. The 30 sec wouldn't ever work in that type of system.
I also don't think you wired the relay right as above.
85 - positive
86 - trigger from alarm
87 - positive
30 - to switch
under yours the output from the alarm would have to be (+), normally it (-)..
Good luck.
i see, thanks. that pretty much took care of what i needed. ill play with it when school gives me a chance.
