Does anyone know if you need to have the factory key with the chip in order to start vehicle after installing the 555u?

Thanks, Corey

Yes you still need the normal key to start the vehicle after installing, a 555u doesn't change that. Although if you hooked up the 555u to ignition instead of the ground out off the remote start you might be able to use a non-chipped key because it would be getting the signal off of the 555u..Not positive on that I wouldn't mess with it though..Good luck

Well I did find out that you do need the chipped key to start the vehicle.  I experimented by having a non chipped key cut and it wouldnt start the vehicle

Did you have the bypass active when you tried this?

yes that ignition ground trick works.... but will cause issues with the insurance company if the vehicle is investigated...grin.  Kind of like leaving the emergency brake wire off when installing a dash screen, but i think we all 'forget' to connect that one.

Don't forget, you can remote-start your car first, then still be able to use your non-chipped key to drive away.

I would try using the 555L on that car.  Sometimes it worked for me and didn't need the key.
