My door lock somtimes short circuits. I think i have the problem fixed, but just incase what could i install so it wont mess up my keyless entry module if it shorts again? A diode or a fuse in the connection? Im not sure? I have a 91 jeep cherokee 4dr

On my jeep i had a bulldog remote start. I took it off bc the lock and unlock stopped working. Then one day i found out when i lock/unlocked my doors from the passinger switch it would blow a fuse. So i figured that the short circuit fried the module to the bulldog remote start. Now I think i have the problem fixed, and i want to install another remote start with keyless entry. But i dont want the chance of a short circuit frying my new module. So could i put a fuse or diode where i connect the module to the door lock/unlock? What could i do to prevent from frying the module?

double check the hook ups that you had before....
did you replace your switch?? you might have a bad one. i have seen where they work fine for a bit and then start acting up

the ORANGE / violet and pink/violet wires acutally require a negative pulse to lock or unlock. i have a 97 jeep cherokee and i think all jeep cherokees from like 90 up to 2000 have those same wire colors for the lock system. when i hooked up my alarm in my jeep, everything but the keyless entry worked b/c i had the relays wired for a positive pulse which is what the database on the internet said. so even tho these vehicle wire diagrams help...always check to make sure.

I have a prestige remote start system and all i do is wire them strait to the unlock/lock wires. Yes i replaced the switch (that was making the short) But what im askin is. . .is there any kind of fuse or anything i can install between the lock/unlock wires and the module to prevent a possible short from hurting the module?
so the system has built in relays to lock/unlock? you didnt have to use any relays at all for the keyless entry?

yes it has built in relays. I just i want to put some kind of fuse or some thing to make sure a short dont harm the module again but no one has given me any help on that subject. Doesent a diode only work in one direction? cant i use that? what size should i use?
ok...I'll bite. yes, a diode will only allow voltage to pass in one direction. put 3 amp diodes on both the lock and unlock wires...this will prevent em from feeding back to the unit, which is what you want them to do...you've been right all along!

if they are shorting out, a diode will help. but i really thing you need to find out why it's shorting. you may cause something else to go wrong. its not that we didnt want to answer your question. it may have been a one time deal....however i would hate to see one problem turn into a bigger one. good luck and i hope everything works.....
