I found out that I have a "factory" (Code Alarm) alarm/remote start on my 2001 Escape(just purchased from Ford Dealer last month). They told me that it had an alarm, but did not mention remote start(maybe they didn't know?). Weird. Any way, the remote start is not working right(pretends like it wants to start when blue button on transmitter pressed twice, but never does...if alarm is armed it will go off). Do I have to program it? I read that you should set it up like you are adding another key. I'm pretty sure it is the "Gold" alarm with PATS bypass box(saw pics of bypass online, same as under dash). When I sat in car and held PATS key near ignition while trying to remote start it, it worked. When I had key in RUN position and pressed blue button on transmitter, I could remove the key and the car would still run(unless I pressed brake) HELP!!!!!

OK, heres is the problem.  Those cars have coded keys.  You can fix this easily by buying a DEI 555F and hooking it up as shown in the diagram.  I am not sure if you can find the alarm brain, but if you cannot hook the red wire to ignition and ground the black wire.  The the pebble that comes with that need to be put by the key cylinder.  Remove the cover from the steering wheel column and zip tie it close to the cylinder.  The reason ford did not tell you it has remote start is because they did not have this installed in it.  Once you get all that squared out the program the pebble, your car should start without a problem.  Hope this helps.

It works! I think your suggestion did the trick ck auto. Thanks! Before trying to "program" the PATS bypass the lights would flash and I could hear clicking, but it never started. If the alarm was armed when I tried it would go off after the thing would attempt to start 3-4 times(guessing it didn't detect the transponder). Here is how to remote start the truck:

*Press the lock button(even if alarm is already armed)

*Immediately press the blue button twice

*Truck will start

*Hold in blue button to shut off.

Yay! I wonder if the previous owner knew it had remote start(it belonged to a big shot at the dealership who didn't drive it much).
