hola,

Ok, so far I've read that it's smart (of course) to hide the brain
really well.  To do this (obviously), you'll most likely have to
extend the wires that came with the alarm.  Is this a common practice?
I guess for the thin wires it's ok, but what about for the remote start
wires which are pretty thick?  Plus, if you extend your module to wherever
in the car, don't they still just need to look under the dash for the power
wires since you have to eventually go there anyway?

Just some thoughts for a newbie.

Hey cpgoose ,

Kool reflectshunz!  Yes hide the brain.  Yes take the needed time to do the install.  Yes tape all your wires with either black vinyl or cloth tape to immitate OEM.  Yes grab the power wires at locations other than typical ignition harness.  Yes extend all the wires using all the same gauge BLACK wires.  Yes be aware of LED and valet switch wires leading to the brain.  Yes add a back-up battery.  Yes add a piezo siren under the dash.  The answer to your question is YES to all of the above.  posted_image

if you put the brain behind the glove box you should not have to extend the main harness wires maybe just the relay satelite wires will have to be extended if you do extend them you may want to use the next guage larger than what is already on the alarm. If it is a viper or simmilar i extend the ribbon cable then you wont have to touch the thick power wires off the relays .posted_image agin it really all depends on where you put the brain behind the radio is a good spot that requies no extending of the wires.

oh yeah definitly add a pain generator those are great let me tell yo0u if someone was to get in your car they wont want to be there for long. i have 3 in my car 2 of them in the vents and one in the drivers side headrest. that way the p***k that tries to steal the car will have em right in his ear whether he is under the dash or in the drivers seat.

bro i did not even read the name on the post just extend the ribbon wires on the 550. where are you going to put it?keep the relay satelite under the drivers dash up high and zip it on something then take the ribbon harness and extend that to where you are putting the alarm. another good thing is take the starter kill relay and snap it into the relay satelite that way it is hard for anyone to know what relay is what.

Pain generators are cool...
So you can move the module all over, and extend wires
however you want. But Big Dog's post made me think...
for the valet switch you can use any switch in the car,
but for the Status LED, won't that always lead
to the module? Can't they just pull on the wires
for the LED until they get to the brain? Obviously if
the brain is in a tough spot, it will be harder to get
to by just pulling the LED wires to it, but it's still
a direct path to the brain...or am I wrong?

EDIT: (I guess the same for some of the other wires. You can grab power somewhere else, but can you do the same with Ignition and Starter wires?)

EDIT: (Ahhh, I just keep thinking of more....like can't
they just look for the hole you made in the firewall for
the wires going to the hoodpin switch or the siren?
The hole would have to be pretty high up on the firewall
for them not to see it just by sticking their head
under the dash.)

Ok, I'm done.

yes you can grab wires from anywere in the car but you can also flex loom the wires so it matches whats in the car already and there would be almost no way to find it at leat not eaSILY.

maybe you should buy a big black dog and put it in the boot (trunk) just in case someone wants to steal your groceries.

Or put the brain near under the center console and pass the wires up to the right of the dash and then over to the left in a black tape harness, just like the factory harness.

No alarm is crim proof, it just slows them down.
