I have a little problem and need some advice.I had an alarm with kill switch installed a little while ago at a local audio/alarm place.Now, a couple weeks later, my car stalled and wouldn't start again. I took it to the shop and they figured out that my alarm had caused the ignition switch and wiring harness to short out. I need a complete new harness and switch, which will run me $500 installed, labor, part, etc.Should the place who installed the alarm from pay for damage???????? Or, how should I go about this???Any suggestions are appreciated.

weel, determine if it was the shop that installed it wqrong, or if it was the module that smoked your car.if it was install error, the shop should pay..., you checked on their labour-warrenty policy before you allowed them to work on your car, right ?if it was module, file a claim with the manufacturer.

hmmmm,I actually didn't check their labor warranty policy. But they advertise with " We garantie our work 100%."Also I already tried to find a web page or somethink for the manufacturer of the alarm but cant find anything?!?!It's a "Exclusive 8000" !!!???

i take it you are not talking about the key switch.
what is the yr make and model of car???
the ing. switch should be at the top of the column. what type of starter disable did they put in?????
what wires are damaged??? most alarms will break the starter wire and run it through a relay. i have never heard of the starter disable shorting out the whole harness. if the switch went bad, then that could cause the wires to melt and short out.
did the car have a remote start installed???

There are LOTS of repair garages, including those at new-car dealerships, that are completely incompetent when it comes to diagnosing electrical trouble.
Instead of working to learn what the true nature of the problem is, they often just blame whatever aftermarket accessories have been installed.
Or, it is still quite possible that the harness was indeed damaged by the installation of the alarm.
Your first step would be to contact the shop who sold/installed the alarm and see what they have to say about it. They may want good proof that their work caused the trouble, along with the old wire harness.
Also, most wiring problems can be repaired by a competent installer, without replacing the entire harness. The shop might ask for permission to try to repair what you have before resorting to new parts. It's up to you whether or not you trust them to do this correctly, but if you do feel that they'll get it right, it may be easier than trying to get them to remimburse you your $500.
Even if they do repair the car for you, they should at least reimburse you for the mechanic's diagnosis time, as well as towing expenses.
