Ok, I never really thought about this when purchasing an alarm, but is there a huge difference between alarm remotes that use lithium batteries, and the ones that don't (say they use those tiny 12v alkaline batteries). Should this be a concern when buying an alarm? I heard the alkaline ones don't last as long as the lithium, but I'm not sure if they'll affect range and things like that.

What do you think?

as long as the transmitter is receiving the amount of power it was designed for, it really makes no difference /what sytle/ the battery is....if it requirs 12V at very low current, then the alkaline batts are just fine.  they are common as a belly-button, and very inexpensive...I'd prefer something common over something "better" and "not common" .

the units range is a factor of its design and intentions, not the style of battery that is in the transmitter.  good luck!

Well, I think the lithium ones are pretty common, and I've heard that they last a lot longer. I've never replaced the lithium one in my remote, but I know of 2 different people that both have alkaline batteries, and there's seem to die in about a year.
