Hello,

I have just finished installing my FM-2009 LCD 2-Way alarm on my 1988 Jaguar XJ6. I am having a couple of problems though.

1.) I have no clue where to hook the tach wire up to. I know that it is a BLACK/ white wire on the tach coil, but I do not even know where that is. My repair manuel doesnt even mention a tach wire. Is there anothre place that I could hook this up other than the coil?

2.) I am having trouble getting the remote start to work. We have only gotten the ingnition to turnover twice. And those times were pretty random. Other than those 2 times, when I hit the remote start button on the LCD pager, my instrument panel will light up for about 1 second, then shut off. Then I will hear what sounds like an old dialup modem sound really soft in the engine. What could be causing this. I am wondering if maybe I have the Ignition 2 wire hooked up wrong. I have the Ingnition 1 wire hooked up to the WHITE/ pink wire on the relay. What wire does the second one go to?

Any help would be great and would be monetarilly compensated via paypal if you help works.

Thanks,

Jeff

Here's the info I have on that car..Never done one though so I can't guarantee anything. After reading it are you throwing + or - to the ignition and starter wires? Did you test them to see what they need? Also as for the coil NORMALLY you just follow the spark plug wires and they will all come together at one spot, the coil. Your wire will be one of the wires coming off of that. A lot of times finding it is easier said than done though so you may need an alternative. By the way, where are you located? Good luck!

Mike

Notes:
*1 This vehicle uses grounds at the ignition switch to turn on relays and modules. To interface with the negative ignition wire to remote start, see directfax document #1500 for wiring information. This vehicle uses low-current, low-voltage switching in many places in the electrical system. Test wiring with a digital VOM. Do not use a test light. *2 Relays located below right side dash. Remove panel to access. Lock module mounted vertically to right of relays. Small black plastic box. *3 Diode-isolate dash end of wire. Sits at ground with ignition off.

Thanks Mike.

I am from Las Vegas. Just one more question though. The bottom of what you sent says for wiring for remote start to please see directfax document #1500. Do you have this document? And if not where would I be able to get it from.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, how did you hook up your starter and Ignition outputs to the car? The Ignition switch uses (-) current to trigger relays that are located below the glove box. Did you grab all of your wires below the glove box? If you grab them at the Ignition harness coming from the key then it wont work.

Start:   WHITE     NO.4 RELAY YELLOW PLUG UNDER GLOVEBOX
Ignition #1:    WHITE/ PINK    NO.2 RELAY BLUE PLUG UNDER GLOVEBOX
Constant +12 Volts:    BROWN NO 2 RELAY BLUE PLUG UNDER GLOVEBOX

Make sure you test these wires with a volt meter, not a test light.

This some info I have. I have not done an install on one of these so I dont know this stuff from experience, I am just figuring this from the info I have.

DEI file #1500 is not helpful i n your case since it is for DEI starters which use external relays so they have (-) outputs for starters and Ignition wires. If this info i have posted is not enough then let us know how you have things set up now we can help further.
