My grandfather has a 2000 gmc 2500. He says the alarm drives him nuts. He just wants it deactivated. Is there a simple way to disarm so everything else still works (pwr locks) or does he need a bypass kit? If so will they get rid of the alarm altogther? Most of what Ive read so far is just about people wanting to install remote starters. Thanks for the help

the owners manual should have a section on how to set up the alarm.

Find the alarm module in the drivers kick on the fire wall and cut the 12v leading to the alarm. This should take care of it and the door locks will still work. The remote will be of no use anymore though.

Hold on there, don't go cutting wires yet. Is it a factory alarm or a dealer installed alarm? If it is a factory alarm the dealership can disable it, this type runs through the computer of the car, or if you look hard enough you can find instructions on how to do it yourself. If it is a dealer installed alarm then just pull the fuse on the red, at least usually red, wire going to the brain.

Actually this years does not go through the computer, it is a stand alone alarm module. I have done these before and I just interrupoted the 12v wire and it took care of it.

Take the LIGHT GREEN wire found in the purple plug of the BCM and take a jumper wire to ground. This will permanently disarm the alarm and it will never re-arm itself so long as the jumper wire is attached to ground.
