When i do starter installs on vehicles with factory alarms, i have never tapped into the arm disarm wire, i just never really knew how to properly do it.  So nows the time to learn.

So, say i have a auto start as-1230 remote starter, with unlock/and lock functions, but no arm/disarm out put.  Is there a way i can hook it up so the people can still have there alarm and the power door locks?  Its probably really simple, but i don't think sometimes.

For instance, i am doing a 2003 ford windstar next week with factory alarm, what would i do?

Thanks in advance.

I cant find any info on that starter so I am not sure what else you can do, but for disarming you can branch off your unlock wire and diode isolate it and have one wire go to unlock andf the other go to the disarm wire. I am not sure if the alarm will get set off when you remote start though. Some alarms do, and some dont. If yours doesnt get set off when remote starting, then this setup will do just fine, but if it does, then you will need to find a way to pulse the disarm wire with a neg pulse before remote starting. I have heard people unlock the doors then remote start, then lock the doors. I would never do that though. If I knew more about your starter I might be able to figure something out.

Make sure you look at the wire diagram for that vehicle. Parking light are unique: Parking lights require you to ground the BLACK/ green and interrupt the dk.blue/white and tan/white to avoid feedback to the headlights.

send ua a link to the install manual of the alarm and we might be able to help further.

"say i have a auto start as-1230 remote starter, with unlock/and lock functions, but no arm/disarm out put"

Not familiar with the unit but there is no "factory alarm disarm" wire? Usually that's what is used..

"For instance, i am doing a 2003 ford windstar next week with factory alarm, what would i do?"

If you are just doing a remote start stand alone, you don't need to do anything as the alarm won't go off when the car starts. If you are doing a remote start/keyless, then you want to hit the disarm wire when you unlock. Since the windstar will have (-) tap in locks you want to use the (-) unlock output off of your module and run it to the unlock wire (GREEN/ YELLOW @ module on inside firewall) and to the factory alarm disarm wire (light blue/black in the drivers kick or the driver door boot). Just make sure to put diodes (band sides towards the module) inline in order to keep these wires isolated. Hope that helps..

Grrr looks like he types faster than me..Oh well the real fun starts when the unit you are using pulses the disarm wire too long which on some cars will unlock the doors. I run into this on DesignTechs a lot and then have to use their brown accessory out wire to relock the doors. So basically a stand alone RS turns into just about a full RS w/ keyless..Do what ya gotta do I guess..

"you don't need to do anything as the alarm won't go off when the car starts"

By the way most fords work this way but don't quote me on anything!
