I have a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado with a manual transmission.  I purchased the Compustar 2WSS-AS alarm for my truck along with the DEI 555L to bypass the passlock II system.  The alarm was hooked up with no problems and worked fine for about 60 days.  Then, the remote start function stopped working.  The alarm would attempt to start the vehicle, but it would only run for a second and then die as if the passlock had been triggered.  I called my install guy and set up a time to meet with him to look at the alarm.  When I took the truck to him the remote start magically worked.  It functioned for another week and then the same symptoms arose.  He looked at the alarm and told me that he wasn't getting a resistance value for the passlock when he attempted to remote start the truck, and told me to buy another DEI module.

I now own three DEI 555L modules and still possess the same problems.  The original DEI 555L module is the only one that will allow my truck to start with the key.  The other two modules trip the passlock when they are connected, and the only way to start the vehicle is to place a jumper between the two resistance wires to relearn the resistance value.  I have also taken the alarm to another authorized Compustar dealer who came to the same conclusion that the DEI 555L was not functioning properly.

All of the outputs from the alarm have been tested.  The alarm learns the tachometer and does all other functions except starting the truck with the remote start feature.  We are going to tear into the wiring this Saturday with the DMM to test the alarm, but I am interested if anyone could give me some advice on where to begin.  All connections on the alarm were soldered and it was a really clean install.  I paid for what I got, but obviously didn't barging for these problems.

Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Which output from the compu are u using to trigger the 555l. Where are your wire run from the 555l? which ones do you have hooked up and which don't u. I installed hundreds of 555l's, and i might of went through 3 bad units. The chances of u having 3 bad ones is slim to none.

check the wires on the clutch switch.  i have a similar set up RS wise in my 98 cavalier using a 555L on a 5spd.  it cranked and died for the first time ever (installed since may 02).  theft was flashing on the dash so i waited 10min for the system to reset and started it with the key.  when i got to work i climed up in the dash and check the 555L saw that it was fine and i was just about to call the DEI dealer number but i saw the wire on teh clutch came unsecure.  i soldered it (dont know why it wasnt in the first place) and 3M taped it.  its been fine since.

The clutch wires as well as the wires for the 555L are all soldered and appear to be connected correctly.  Since the alarm has been installed, we haven't changed any of the connections other than unplugging and replugging the 555L.

The alarm worked fine for about 60 days with the connections that we made.

I've installed the PLDATA from www.bypasskit.com

The installation went as planned with the PLDATA unit learning the code, but the alarm still won't autostart my truck.  Everything else on the alarm works fine.  The truck attempts to start but still acts as if the passlock is tripped.  I'm getting no security lights in the viehicle with the PLDATA installed as well.

Take a look at the security light on the dash. If the light begins to flash when you try to remote start, then it is a passlock issue. Also, you would likely not be able to start the car with the key for ten minutes after a failed start attempt.

If the light is on constant, or you are still able to start the car with the key after a failed attempt, then I bet you have a tach problem. Did you solder your sonnections? Try a different unit if you have one, maybe the tach detection is bad on that one.
