Hello everyone, I am looking to find some help in regards to installing a Keyless entry/Remote starter on a Canadian model 2001 Toyota RAV4. On this great site I found the wiring diagrams https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=3438&KW What I'd like to know is if anyone figured out how to retain the stock keyless entry's "Priority Unlock". What that means is that on the stock unit, 1 pulse on the button unlocks just the drivers door, and two pulses unlocks both doors. This seemed to be the main obsticle facing the poster of the above thread, but they never replied iwth having gotten it figured out or not! I would also like to know if anyone has done this before, and how hard/easy it is? I have installed many steroes, etc - but have never done a remote starter - Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Jared -------------

Thanks for your reply desh187 I found another great bit of information here: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=1172&KW=RAV4 Now, it says that the blue/orange(-) unlock is also in the driver kick panel, yet you've mentioned its in the pass junciton box - Have you looked for these wires in the driver kick panel? -------------

desh187: Could you be so kind as to list in as much detail as you can, the install process? Anything I should look out for, etc... Have you installed a remote starter as well, or just the remote entry?
Thanks again, Jared -------------

Wow, prompt reply - Thanks! For the Ignition Harness, is that in the engine bay, or in the steering column? Have you used the Haynes for the 2001 RAV4, does it help at all with locations/wiring diagrams? -------------

the ignition harness is at the steering column and i have installed an auto start/alarm on this model and the wiring schematics is correct and installation gets easier when you have the location.

umm....the haynes manuals kinda suck if your working fast, a remote start diagram works wonders.... if anybody has tried to hook up an alarm or remote start with a hanyes manual, you know what i'm saying....takes forever...

Hello again everyone! Can anyone tell me, how do I hook up the remote entry feature so that the priority unlock works? It's a Negative Pulse Door Lock, so does that mean I need to pick any special relay, etc? Thanks, Jared -------------

Hey guys, Im mid-install right now, but cant seem to find the tach wire to hookup. There are so many black wires near or under the fuse box that I cant tell. Does anyone know if it is part of the left connecteor block or the right one, or is it the one in the middle? Thanks alot -------------

good news, we got the lock/unlock figured out! :D The problem now is the remote start - When I press start the unit, a Pro-Start CT-3300, blinks the parking lights at me 5 times. According to the manual, under normal operation, 5 flashes = either a new transmitter was learnt, or tach learnt. I don't understand why it would flash that at us every time we try to start. Start Failure codes, which I think is what we've got, 5 flashes indicates "No tach cut off" what does that mean? that it can't sense the tach? This code also makes little sense, as you'd think that for no tach cut off to occur, the car would have to crank! help, where is this data link connector ?? I found a black wire, and that is what we're hooked into, but it just won't turn the car over, all I get is 5 flashes! -------------

Hey guys, Still cannot get the car to complete tach learning mode! :( In my first post in this thread, I pointed to another thread where they mention the tach wire as follows: TACHOMETER |black | |data link connector *3 | *3 The data link connector is below the driver side fusebox. The tach wire is the black wire in pin 9. Now, we have looked and looked, and hooked into two black wires that we think could be the tach wire, but the car just will not complete the tach learning mode! :( What exactly is the difference between a data link connector and a regular pin connector? if I could figure that out, maybe I could figure out where the heck the tach wire is! :( Help, please! -------------

hi the data link connector will have a black cover on it it will say diagnostic or something like that on it if i remember correctly it is lower than the fuse box about half way down it .it will look like the data connector below dash on a chevy if you cant find it go to an injector but that sometimes doesn';t work that great confuses some rs units the 5 flashes means you haven't learned the tach signal properly.let me know how you make out.where in canada are you ------------- good luck

Hi! I am in Calgary, Alberta - I got this as a gift for my mother, but it's beening such a headache -got the remote entry done, just this stupid tach wire, can't figure out where it goes!!! So, for the data link connector, it's not going to have anything plugged into it, right? it will just be a empty socket to plug into? I would then tap the tach wire into the black wire coming off the back of the data link connector? Many thanks for any help you can provide -------------

Okay everyone, we got the remote start working! Now the only issue is the accessories! :( I tapped the acc. wire on the remote starter into the blue/red wire, as everyone says, but it will not activate the accessories. So the heater, etc will not come on until the key hits the on posistion! :( That's no good! What other wires have people tapped into for the accessories on a 2001 RAV4 ?
Thanks! -------------

Have you tried testing the BLUE/RED wire at the igntion harness to see if you in fact have the proper wire ? The wire will test 12 volts with the key in the ACC/ON positions. If it does, then turn on the fan motor and with the car off, take a jumper wire from 12 volts to the RED / BLUE wire. This will turn on the fan and the heater if you have the proper wire. If this is the case and the remote starter doesn't engage the heater or fan, make sure that there is not a programming option that allows you to change the time frame that the ACC wire gets 12 volts on it. If it does, program the time to 0 seconds after remote start for engagement of the circuit.

Well, I did read through the maunal looking for the exact thing you mention, a timer on the acc start, but I didn't come up with anything... That said, it was 4:30am at that point... I will have to wait until I can borrow a multi meter to check the lines for power, but I will go back and re-read the manual to ensure I ddnt do anyhting wrong -------------
