To Whom Ever Can Help!!
I have a 2001 Sebring Coupe with a remote start/alarm. I accidentally put a straight ground to the trunk wire instead of doing a 5-wire alternating setup on the trunk wire when I installed it. The horn started going non-stop and a bit of smoke came out of the dash. I had to pull the horn fuse out to make it stop working. Now the factory remote won't even activate the trunk. Do I have to replace a brain in the car or did a meltable link become active? Is this going to be cheap to fix? Thanks for your help everyone!

You let the genie out? NOOOO!!! First and foremost you need to have the BCM ( body control module) checked out, it is basically the computer that controls a majority of the non engine related functions of the car, including factory keyless entry. Last time I checked a new bcm for a dodge/chrysler was around 800 dollars.

Could it be a relay that is stuck open or closed? My wife is going to kill me if I have to replace that BCM. The best price I could find for one is $450.00. Thanks for your help!

Chances are, are that you blew not only a relay but some of the traces on the board. You could always open it up and see what condition it is in.

if im correct, that trunk pop requires a negative pulse, so you were supposed to use a relay. what did u mean by a straight ground?
